I can't say I can directly link one to the other, no, but I think losing added with putting yourself out there does effect confidence. If not, then all the bluster doesn't exactly have the confidence building effect either. it can't only work one way.
I don't think it has anything to do with confidence-building. I think it has everything to do with trying to get the fans loud on Sunday, because that was a huge part of Ryan's presser on Tuesday (and Wednesday and Thursday, now that I've seen those pressers as well). They want to fans to get into it in the stadium. I wonder why they're going out of their way to do something like that? Hmmmm, let me see, why would they do something like that....
I hate that the Jets are trash talking. They need to shut up, do their talking on the field, and be humble after the game, if they are fortunate enough to win.
It's amazing, people complained when Mangini shut the team up and went with a no-personality government worker style of approach. Now that the team is feeling their oats and going for it, people are complaining again. You never win with Jets fans.
+1 I basically made the same point in another thread....saying that if people don't like the new trash-talking confidence-building approach that Rex is taking....they should've followed Mangini to the Browns and their 5th rate messageboards.
You know what, I used strongly agree with you and I thought this bulltin board material was a bad idea. I am starting to change my tune because I think the Jets are trying to intimidate them. And I think for the first time they truly believe they are going to smack them around. I think it is a very good mind set for them to have. I think that Rex had them ratcheted up so high that the Pats won't be able to match the energy. I do believe that Jets are going to beat them up physically and likely win the game. I also think there is an outside chance that they could smack them around. God I wish we had Pace too.
Jets fans are a bunch of pussies, this just confirms it. How can any Jets fan not be excited about this new approach? Would you really rather have your Qb giving his pre game pep talk by saying " if we win we win" or our HC to be satisfied with any drive that ends in a punt? Bulletin board material is the biggest BS in sports history, the Pats have always been fired up to play the Jets and vice versa regardless of what has been said leading up to the game. The outcome is going to be proven on the field, I guarantee it won't hurt any more if they lose because they talked some trash. I'm loving this new look Jets team, it's time for the fans to catch up to the new mentality.
These are the words Ryan used to explain his coaching philosophy I never heard Rex Ryan say he wanted to embarrass the Pats or talk trash. We have had plenty of players coaches who have accomplished nothing with this organization. What will turn this team is a sound football approach coupled with enough great players to compete at the highest level. The talk will not do squat for this team.
I'm getting geeked now. I didn't think I would but Rhodes making these comments makes me feel better cause he's been slacking lately. Maybe he can get where he was a few years ago. There is no way the Pats are gonna blow this Jets team away. Win or lose it should be a good one. X factor Gladys? That would be the cherry on top.(pipe dreaming) If things go well the next few weeks, can you imagine when Pace gets back? O Lordy Lordy!
Gah, calling it the superbowl..calling fans and telling them to be loud..players talking shit. Its all too gay.
What's the direct correlation between the two? Nothing. We can be the team we are without doing all that hokey shit.
I'm not complaning about Ryan. I have no issue with Scott performing at a high level and talking trash during the game or Jenkins doing it for that matter during the game. I think Rhodes has gone from a player on the cusp of breaking through to greatness a couple of years ago to a mediocre self promoter who's comments were totally inappropriate.
you're right...we can be. But I enjoy the entertainment factor and all the hoopla leading up to the game. I want that Ravens/Steelers type nastiness between the Jets & Pats....not the Spygate espionage crap we've had to put up with over the last 3 years or so. If we end up losing...yeah...it's gonna suck.....but how does that affect you directly? Does Rhodes' trashtalking impede your life in any way shape or form?? Why can't people just enjoy the rivalry, the trashtalk, the actual game...and everything else that comes part and parcel with this.
How does it affect me directly?!?!?! I don't know about you but when this team loses I'm unbearable for days after LOL! If it turns out to be a huge let down for the players and they fall into a slump because they talked shit and still got womped then it does directly affect me. I'm a fan.
I couldnt agree more and I like Kerry, but his play hasnt warranted all the talking he has been doing.
