To me the most important comment was "Read and react is for other people." That's not just talk - that's a specific comment about the way he plans to have the defense play. That is not at all the way Herm and Mangini had their defenses play. I don't know if it will be successful or not, but I don't think there's any question that it will be different.
This is the guy I wanted as HC so I am happy but I will stay calm till I see the product on the field. This guy is saying all the right things though.

There was more excitement in that press conference than the combined last three years under Mangini. Since this is going to be the bump thread a few years down the line, I'm going to go on record as saying not only is this the right hire... but this is THE GUY. Rex Ryan will lead the Jets to a Super Bowl! I haven't felt this much Green Sunshine since they hired Bill Parcells.
Yawn. Have heard it all before, a number of times over the last 40 years. Let's see performance on the field. Let's see a team play hard and focused for 60 minutes. If that happens, I will begin to think he may be able to do something. Otherwise, its just gums flapping.
