QUOTE=JetsFan;2913717 3. If you call three of the four picks great and all of whom had been benched this year on multiple times and are only starters because Rex has assembled such a shitty team and so many of his previous picks sucked even worse a success, then you must be a moron. I never said great. Genius Are Milliner Richardson Smith and Winters full time starters as rookies.....answer YES. Not to mention Ivory in the foutth round who was a huge steal 4. Sanchez was looking pretty good in the new offense, and way better than Geno will ever be, not to mention paying a guy $8M to sit on his ASS when he would have won us more games a plus, just proves the prior two comments I made about you He started one game and immediately found Ziggy Ansah for a touchdown. I guess if that is your definition of "pretty good" then he looked pretty good Sent from my BNTV400 using Tapatalk
Everything you say is irrefutably true. In fact, go back to Baltimore. That was Marvin Lewis' super bowl defense he ended up coordinating there. Time for Rex to go.
Since folks want to give Rex a mulligan after 5 years and 3 non-winning seasons, maybe we should Idzik 5 years to learn how to be a good GM. It's not like we're in any kind of rush after 45 years to win something.
This doesn't really apply to Rex, but it could be argued that the rush for a SB has created a team that isn't consistently winning and a team that took chances on Favre and Sanchez to become an immediate SB winner instead trying to create a solid foundation of talent and winning. Back to Rex, if he goes, it has to be a clean sweep and get MM out too unless you hire MM as HC. We already told the new GM, Rex is staying when you sign on. You can't sign a new HC and say MM is staying if you sign on. It's going to have to be a clean sweep of coaches unless we hire from within.
Rex's biggest problem is talent identification, and that's made worse by having back to back non-personnel GMs. He is also completely adverse to offense. But let's not act like he's the only one sided HC. Sean Payton and Mike McCarthy know nothing about defense. Mike Tomlin doesn't know anything about offense (and never coached a 3-4 zone blitz either). These are all recent SB winning coaches. Rex can be successful if he has a personnel guy as a GM. You can't have this GM with Rex, and vice versa. Pick one and move forward.
Honestly, after the start of the season, I haven't been real thrilled with MM either. There's a reason why MM didn't make the trip to KC with Andy Reed and I think we're seeing it. Seems like with MM, it's either balls to the wall, or crawl and stall with no in between. Either its Air Morningwig, or ground and pound. Maybe Woody grew a pair over this last season. Time will tell if he did or if he's the same old silver-spoon owner we all thought he was. Fact is, Rex is on his third OC and this one's results, albeit with a questionable roster on offense, has not been stellar. If Rex goes, I'd be for taking MM and DT and Kotwica and the trainers with him. The house should have been cleaned out last season but Woody didn't have the courage to do that fearing fan backlash and the resulting slow PSL sales. As we all know, Woody is about the flash and the cash. Maybe he trusts his new GM enough NOW to allow him to bring in his people. I realize that Idzik was a cap guy just like Tannenbaum was but I'd like to think Woody isn't stupid enough to make the same mistake twice regarding who he picks to "shop for the groceries".
Hopefully, Woody isn't as patient or uncaring as Hess was. Hopefully, he wants a winner sooner rather than later. You have a point with giving Idzik some time to learn and grow, but if I were the owner, and Idzik screws the pooch on this offseason, I'd have a very hard time keeping him as my GM. I guess I'd give him one more year rather than taking a huge hit in the media for certain for only keeping him for a year. I'd have a hard time letting him stay more than one more year, unless his next offseason was light years better or the new HC he hired proved to be a great hire, as I wouldn't want to continue to waste resources (cap space and draft picks). All that said, I think Idzik has done a pretty good job so far. I would still have no reason to not trust him to make a good hire for HC should Rex be fired.
So you're satisfied with the D being dominant in only one game a year and meh in the rest? You do realize they play 16 games a year, don't you?
In fairness, he did have some experience with personnel and scouting, just not a lot. He is also the son of a football coach and has been a coach himself, so it isn't like he doesn't understand the game like Tanny. That said, the personnel men he brought in were from the Cards and the Cards' drafts with them on board were somewhat underwhelming. IMO the jury's still out on Idzik's skills in talent evaluation. We'll have a much clearer idea after this offseason.
I understand where you're coming from, and mostly agree with you. I do think the "ground & pound" crap is all Rex, however. MM has never done that before. Rex has with every OC he's had. He gets very conservative and he even admitted that it was his fault that the offense went into a shell following the bye. As for Woody, I sure hope you're right. If not, we're all screwed.
I love how some people think bringing in a new coach=Instant Winning Season,What would likley happen is 4-12 and he gets a mulligan for his first year ,year 2 the new coach goes 6-10 while Rex has Clevland in the playoffs.Ya know ..The Jet Way
The last 5 times the Jets hired a new coach, this was the record the first season 2009: Rex Ryan - 9-7 2006: Eric Mangini - 10-6 2001: Herm Edwards - 10-6 2000: Al Groh - 9-7 1997: Bill Parcells - 9-7 I understand that Rex Ryan is probably better than Vince Lombardi, Bill Walsh, Chuck Knoll, Bill Belichick and Don Shula combined, but somehow I think we could manage to win with a new coach.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Idzik,_Jr. this appears to show that he coached a little bit and has been a part of the front offices since the 90s. including asst gm, director of football admin., sr director of football operations. seems he might just might have a little bit more football knowledge than your typical bean counter. do a little tiny bit of research.
09 and 10 were definitely the best D's. No question. This years secondary holds this D back. I trust Rex to be able to fix the secondary though (if he stays). And once he does that, with this D-Line, I exoect our D's in the future to be some of the best we have ever seen. It's just to bad we couldnt keep Revis. Him with this D-Line would be amazing.
You know hoe Rex thinks he can fix the Defense don't you? By using our top picks in the draft on the Defense once again and ignoring the Offense. Same song just a different year. A good Defensive Coach can improve his defense with out putting every 1st round pick into it or spending 2/3 of the salary towards it. Take Holmes and Sanchez salaries out of the mix on Offense since neither helped the team this year and we have one of the cheapest paid Offenses in the whole NFL. If I had all the numbers it might actually come out to be the cheapest Offense without those two non-contributors included.
I don't think this part is fair. I'll bet if you took out the top two earners on one side of the ball for ANY team it would look like an underpaid unit. Also, it might not be true because Brick and Mangold both have hefty salaries (and according to nyjetscap, Austin Howard is the 8th highest paid player on the team. Who knew?) The problem (among a few) isn't that we don't spend a lot on offense minus two non-contributers, it's that the two highest salaries on offense belong to two non-contributors.
