Rex's quote pissed me off. I am one of those who Mack described in the post above. I arrive, scream early and often, and have been disappointed by the results of the past two home games. Rex needs to understand we need something to yell about. Watching those 2 returns against Miami was deflating. Losing the last 3 to Miami has been deflating. Calling out the fans when the team has not done the job pisses me off. I like Rex and understand what he is trying to accomplish but he doesn't get a pass here either. Get it right Rex. Then we will get your back.
I am a Rex fan, but we've been Jet fans for longer, in some cases a LOT longer, than he's been here. We know the lay of the land. Stop adding to F'ing Miami's disgusting win streak over the Jets and then you'll hear some real cheering alright.
Just cheer, when something shitty happens- I wish just once, ONCE, everyone would realize mistakes happen and continue to scream. I too don't stop, but it seems everyone around me does. After 1, 3 and out they all turn into a bunch of pussies. What Rex said was not wrong, when we played the Pats no matter what happened whenever Brady came near the ball everyone was going insane. I wish we did that every game from start to finish. I'd probably have no voice for months come January but it's damn well worth it if we as fans can actually have a impact on the outcome of a game.

I was a season ticket holder until this year. But I have to admit - the Meadowlands can get pretty quiet sometimes when the other team is on offense. I was like some of you here - screaming my ass off when our D was working. But I could easily hear myself above the crowd around me. One old man in a fire hat can't get an entire stadium rocking. If the coach can get the crowd motivated by adding two sentences at his press conference then more power to him. I'm pretty sure it wasn't his top agenda when meeting with the players...
What? Why would his quote piss you off? I don't even see what he said as calling us out, and if you're doing that already, he isn't talking to you. He wants Jets fans to still have faith in his team and to be loud for them on Sunday. How else is he going to ask that of fans without just saying it? And for the most part our team has gone out there and done their job.. just a few fuckups here and there have held us back.

A - He's crazy, New York has the best fans in the world B - He's right, New York fans have lost a step C - He should just shut up and coach the team The answer is B and C - It's obvious that a large percentage of Jets fans at the game only make noise when prompted by someone! But Ryan needs to worry about winning games! That might make the fans a bit louder also.
It's hard to find that kind of fan. I applaud the Bills fans. Mostly it's the old Pavlov's theory. The old Foxboro stadium was not very noisy often before the Pats started winning big because the fans were conditioned that it made no difference. Now the fans at Gillette are loud because they are conditioned to expect good things when they stand and yell and cheer.
I hope the JETS faithful show the JAGS something they're not used to seeing.... a PACKED house that's rockin!
Oh, this is so fucking gay already. "We're part of the team, their success depends on us, blah, blah, blah." Line up your best 11 and knock the shit out of theirs. If you need some losers in the stands to help you, you aren't good enough. I wish a defensive player waiving his hands and exhorting the crowd to affect the actual play of the game would get tagged with a 15 yard unsportsmenlike.
I've always felt there's a certain amount of truth to this, and well-said, Dierking. It's okay to exhort the crowd for commeraderie and ulimately the noise factor, but if you as a player are depending upon it to make a difference in the upcoming play, good luck with that.
just to play devils advocate, the crowd helped with the Pats having delay of game penalties and burning timeouts in week 2.
I didn't say that fans cheering and making noise make a team play better. I said that fans cheer louder for a good outcome when it is more expected. I thought that I made that point.
The few screwups have killed us, not held us back. Those screwups have messed with a promising season. The season is not lost but the TEAM (including the coaching staff) has to pick up the pace. I'd personally like for the crowd to sound like the New England game every week.
which is why the practice shouldn't be encouraged, in my opinion. Fans are spectators, not participants.
We've had this discussion earlier in the year before the Pats game. Its head scratching to think you still have this opinion after that game. The crowd wreaked all kind of havoc on Ne's O that day - false starts, time outs and delay of games , not to mention limiting their ability to make effective audibles. Sure, your a purist and feel football is 11 on 11 period. But there's absolutely no doubt that our homefield crowd can influence how a game is played by our opposition.
while were at it why dont all games get played at an undisclosed location in an poorly lit warehouse. then when the games over they can tell us who won.
