Thats in the coaches not Revis. They're too worried about getting beat deep. Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
But.. Ed Reed could hit until really late in his career. Revis is more finesse than a slugger. I can see Revis being the deep help for our cover corners. Hell, I could even see TB/Rodgers going with some version of a zone too.
To be fair to Gilchrist, he was out of position while pointing something out to Marcus Williams, so, and this is speculation, he may have been caught with his pants down while trying to solve another problem. Bottom line the entire secondary failed on that play. That can't happen again. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Revis has been the best tackling corner in the league since his rookie year. You don't need a headhunter at FS, you need a smart cover man that can wrap up.
That is opinion, not fact. Plenty of coaches give their veteran corners the freedom to press or drop depending on the situation. I don't doubt that Bowles give Revis that freedom.
You'd hope that paying 17M to one of the best CBs in the game, would help solidify that communication. Hopefully they clean it up and get ready for Thursday.
Why would they give him that freedom knowing Cincy was killing us on the bubble screen? That 3 5 3 formation definitely shows that it was otherwise guys would have moved to the uncovered blockers and recievers with them not standing around looking confused. The team got beat deep early and the playcalling in the second half shows they were concerned about it again. Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
Revis stopped jamming receivers after he tore the ACL. What makes more sense? Revis changed the way he was playing after tearing his knee apart. 3 different coaches told him to stop jamming receivers the way he did during the height of his production. Hmm?
Revis will be good for us. Just can't put him 1 on 1 with the young studs. We are paying him the money to do so, but he just isn't capable anymore. He's still capable of being good. Just not his own island. The coaching staff needs to adjust to this and set up the defense that works to the best of the abilities of the personnel. Not past abilities but current abilities.
No he didnt, he did it in NE. He did it last year at times too. The difference is also they play more zone under TB than he did under Rex. So he doesnt jam as frequently. That's what im talking about when i say coaching. Dont say oh thats not what happend. They were clearly playing a lot of zone in the second half of the game and thats why the bubble screen was killing us. Dalton simply recognized it and threw the screen. Unfortunately we paid for the 2009/10 Revis 5 years too late and it looks like a bad decision at the moment. Give him the help over the top he needs and it will immediately improve. Next season convert to FS and utilize the guys excellent tackling skills for the remainder of his time with us. Is there not too much dead cap space in cutting him?
No, there won't be too much dead cap space imo. They'll save $7,333,333 on the cap. The dead space ($8 million) is irrelevant when one needs cap space, and whereby cutting the player one can gain over $7 million in cap space. IMO that is compounded when that player probably won't be all that effective as a FS.
Revis can't play on an island anymore. The days of a WR playing against Revis = better sit the guy in fantasy are gone. Messed up leg + age will do that. Give him help like any other CB and he'll still be one of the top corners in the NFL.
I'm really looking forward to watching Revis now that he has the motivation of the whole world talking smack about him.
Well, Bowles put to rest the whole thing of where he is making Revis play off receivers. Revis has total freedom to press or play off. Revis is just too slow to press any fast receivers anymore and that's what made him great coming into the league. Revis can no longer be trusted 1 on 1 vs number one receivers due to his declining quickness. Bowles would be smart now to just double the number 1 and keep Revis on the number 2. Sucks too because Revis is getting paid now like a top CB and with watching him play game 1, I have a hard time even saying hes top 10 anymore.
