Really? Do you disagree Revis wasn't deserving of the Pro Bowl last year? Outside of being beat during 2 or 3 game's last year do you disagree that Revis wasn't a top 5 NFL coverage CB last year? If not list your top 5 CB's from 2015 and I'll be sure to point out where you're wrong. And do you disagree that Revis wasn't rated as the NFL's #1 coverage corner (only last year) in terms of opposing QB completion percentage against? Two games into 2016 and the sharks come out of the water's. It's head scratching. If it were up to the sharks we'd have... 1.) Marcus Williams. 2.) Buster Skrine. 3.) Juston Burris (rookie). 4.) Darryl Roberts. 5.) Antonio Allen. As our top 5 CB's. Some of you sharks are truly clueless surrounding the overall impact (and good) that #24 does for not only our secondary but also our entire defense.
who cares what Revis did last year or 5 years ago.Revis never got burned this bad in back to back games ....If he gets burned again id bump him down the depth chart and give someone else a chance.KC is gonna try and pick on Revis now because they know his confidence is hurt and I expect alot of deep shots his way.He needs a big play like a Pick 6 or a Redzone int.
He played the #1's sometimes. He had Jordy Nelson and AJ Green (with deep help on Green) most of those games. The Pats often just double the #1 and put their best 1 on 1 against the other WR.
The disturbing thing with Revis is he seems to not be a sure tackler anymore and the hunger is gone ...at least through the first two games... I will reserve my judgement because its still TOO EARLY...we have the rest of the season to find out... But I cant help but think of Roy Jones Jr...I hope Revis career does not mirror his....he went from looking like an all time great to looking worse than a JAG coz he got knocked out and lost his mojo/confidence...
The guy won his ring with the NE Patriots. The guy is a great cornerback but he isn't really a NY Jet. He is a private contract mercenary. Not that all players aren't mercenaries. I've been a Jets fan going back to 65. I live in AZ and I'm currently an AZ Cardinals season ticket holder. Larry Fitzgerald is a Cardinals player. He is well paid but he's not a private contractor in the sense that Revis is. Revis has set himself up to be a hated player. Lets face it his best pay days are now behind him and it doesn't surprise me that he is in decline. If he actually had another pay day in front of him I have no doubt he would be the best cover corner in the league. It is what it is. Great player but he's not the greatest Jets defender in history. His the greatest mercenary CB in NFL history.
Yup - what he's done in the past is completely irrelevant to the success of the Jets this year and so far he looks like shit. Past accolades aren't going to keep Maclin out of the end zone Sunday.
We're only a whopping two games into the season and not even as recent as last year means anything while Revis A.) Made the pro bowl, B.) Graded out as a top 5 CB & C.) Rated #1 coverage corner against the pass in QB completion percentage against? What a joke.
None of what you just posted is going to keep Maclin out of the end zone Sunday. What part of that don't you understand? He is no longer doing what used to make him great.
Enough about "Maclin" already. Maclin has only caught 50% of his target's this year & has a whopping 1 TD reception. Enough.
Disagree. He's still a sure tackler, and made some very nice tackles in the Bills game, a couple in some open space. Imo, part of the problem is TB getting his personnel right on the field to match the schemes at the right time. It's a work in progress fine tuning the D. I also think Revis is starting to be unable to play at an elite level if he's nicked up. Often times in team sports an athlete will continue to play although he may not be 100%, to help the team, and his performance may suffer. But the player will rebound. That's common in football, baseball, basketball, and hockey, but outsiders not having all the info will assume the player has "lost it". I wanna see this play out first before I discount one of the toughest competitors, and best CB's, I've ever seen play
Do you see the irony in your response? You're complaining that people have dismissed what Revis has done in the past AND saying that it's early this season, yet you're dismissing what Maclin has done in the past and are writing him off early, while asking others to not write Revis off. Listen, I don't think Revis is done. Something's wrong, but I don't think his skills just evaporated over night. I expect him to improve. By the same token, however, I expect Maclin to do a lot more than he has so far. If the Jets aren't careful, this could be a game that turns Maclin around.
Where does he rank as far as TD passes given up (especially long ones)? I bet he isn't top 5 in that category. He may grade out decent in completion % since others give up more passes since they don't get beat deep as often as Revis does.
Actually the reason why Revis ranked #1 against the pass (only) last year in regards to QB completion percentage against and/or WR catch % against is because Revis is one of the best coverage corners around; and two whopping games into 2016 doesn't change that. Since you know so much, how about you tell me. After getting beat (1 time) by an Olympic track star how many more receptions did Revis allow Goodwin to have? Exactly. Revis & Williams also took turns covering Sammy Watkins. How many receptions and yards did Watkins have on Revis? Exactly. And since you know so much about the decline of Darrelle Revis (As a top 5 coverage corner last year) how about you answer your own question? Throughout the entire 2015 season how many WR's beat Revis for deep TD's? Name them and I'll be waiting. You can take his entire career (including this year and last season) and you still won't be able to list off not even 10 receivers who've beat #24 for deep TD receptions; now can you? Nope. You cant. Go ahead and try it. 1.) ___ 2.) ___ 3.) ___ 4.) ___ 5.) ___ 6.) ___ 7.) ___ 8.) ___ 9.) ___ 10.) __ Just goes to show his overall greatness. We're only two games into 2016 and if you lack the knowledge to both understand and comprehend that Revis performed as an overall top 5 coverage corner last year, that just goes to show how much insight you lack regarding the CB position. Getting beat by the likes of a handful of elite NFL WR's throughout the course of an entire season doesn't change the fact that Revis was dominant only last season. Revis was on the field during 884 snaps last year. Now how many times was he "beat deep for a TD"? Laughable.
First off homer boy, no one gives a crap about what Revis did back in the Rex days. People are pissed off hes being paid as if he is a top 5 CB and playing like a bottom 5. Go back and watch the Raiders, Jags, Buffalo game 2 last year, Bengals game this year, and Buffalo game 1 this year and you are smoking crack if you can honestly say hes a top 5 CB. Cooper, Watkins, Hopkins, Green, etc beat him with ease. He isn't being paid to ONLY shut down the garbage receivers but step up against the good ones as well. Did he shut down some other teams who have no talent at receiver in other games? Sure. That is not being disputed. PS: Stop with your Watkins last game garbage. A blind person like yourself could clearly see he was a decoy and had no burst.
The deep T.D by A.J Green wasn't the fault of Revis, it was a blown coverage and Todd Bowles has stated such. And did you really just mention Cooper? He had a whopping 5 receptions for 46 yards and 0 TD's. So outside of talking out of your ass, what are you talking about? 5 catches for 46 yards and 0 TD's? So as far as last year goes, congratulations; you could only list off Watkins and Hopkins as two receivers who beat Revis last year. Revis was on the field for 884 snaps last season but yet you could only muster up two receivers? I guess this is what happens when you're one of the greatest coverage CB's all-time only two games into the season while coming off a top 5 year just the season before. Kind of reminds me of when Randy Moss beat Revis deep for a TD. Moss burning a younger Revis still didn't change the fact Revis was becoming an all time great. Just as Hopkins and Watkins having success againt Revis last year doesn't change the fact Revis still graded out as a top tier CB and rated #1 against the pass in coverage throughout the entire 2015 season. A whopping two games into 2016 doesn't change any of the above. Andrew Luck had a horrible showing last week. Should he be benched? Aaron Rodgers had an awful performance last week. Can we now consider him overpaid, on the decline and mediocre? Or is it only Darrelle Revis who gets this type of treatment (only two games into 2016)? Revis without question performed as a top 5 coverage corner last season and it takes someone with a lack of understanding and insight into the cornerback position to say otherwise.
And how hypocritical can one be? It's not o.k to mention Revis being on Watkins over 50% of the time on Thursday Night while holding him to nothing all because Watkins may have not been 100%? But yet it's o.k to mention Watkins beating Revis week 17 when Revis was obviously hurt in which required offseason wrist surgery? Hypocritical, hypocrites. What about week 6 (when both were healthy) where Revis shut Watkins down to the tune of 3 catches for a whopping 14 yards and 0 TD's off 7 targets? Mind boggling. And what all did Goodwin do the rest of the game after catching a fluke bomb? Oh yea. That's right. Nothing. Kind of like Sammy Watkins throughout the entire game.
It was combo of Cooper/Crabtree (not to mention Cooper had him beat for a TD but an errant pass saved Revis further embarrassment). Of course TB is going to stand up for Revis and not blame him. He is getting paid a fortune and doesn't want to hurt the poor guys feelings. Regardless of it there was a center fielder back there, it is still Revis's man and he got beat. It was safety "help". He didn't just pass it off and let the safety have it. Revis still holds blame on that pass as well. Youre putting WAY TOO much into the numbers that are PADDED by playing against a bunch of stiffs and weak ass teams they played last year. If you want to brag all day about how he is so good by padding numbers against below average receivers and then watch the old man get his behind handed to him by the better receivers, by all means go for it. For what he is getting paid, we expect him to show up against the better receivers of the league. Period. Lucky for Revis is the schedule this year is pretty tough but not a whole lot of teams have a top 10 receivers so he really only has to deal with a maybe healthy Watkins later this year and Antonio Brown. Your comparisons of quarterbacks who can play well into their upper 30s to DBs who decline when they hit their 30s is pretty dumb as well. Try again.....
