They havent proved shit. They proved that Revis was going to get 16 million a year. Like you said, they still need a franchise QB. Lets wait and see how they do this year before we crown them. The also have Vincent Jackson, Doug Martin, 2 great Guards, Claiborne, McCoy, Barron, Lavonte David... They have a LOT of young talent that they have built up. They arent building around Revis, they are building a team.
Uhh no. A good pass rusher has an effect on the run game more so than Revis. That's already way ahead of a corner in that book. Then a pass rusher can singlehandedly create a pass rush adn rush the QB, something Revis can't do. Then a pass rusher can create less time for the coverage to cover, something Revis can't do because he only covers one guy. Yeah he might cover his guy for 20 seconds, but if Eric Smith lets his guy free after 2 seconds all of Revis' work goes to waste. It's harder to neutralize a good pass rusher than a good corner. To neutralize a good pass rusher, you might have to keep your TE that likes to run routes in to block or chip and delay their routes (see NE vs BAL). You can neutralize a good corner but sending decoys his way or just throwing to other targets. Revis is amazing at what he does, probably as good as anyone at their position in the league. But a corner can't affect the game as much as other positions, especially with teams going to this spread idea. If the offenses were more "traditional" only one or two receivers at a time, Revis' value jumps. With 4/5 routes being run at a time, Revis' impact diminishes unless he can clone himself. Idzik didn't pay those guys, Tanny did. Idzik operates differently.
Right on. People that wanted more are delusional. $16M for 5 years was never going to happen with the Jets. Save that money for the right QB (which is not currently on the roster)
Boy I can't wait to throw at him week 1....regardless if he succeeds or not, test how his knee is and don't hesistate. Guy takes a parting shot at the Jets on his way out and doesn't thank the fans or coaches who helped make him what he is today.
This made me lol. A great pass rusher effects every pass play, often have double teams rotated his way to account for him. Revis may be one of the best Jets ever, but he did not have the type of effect on a game that a LT, Bruce smith, or Reggie White did. With the increased multiple receiver sets, locking down one receiver is not as big of a deal as it was in the 70s, 80s, or 90s. You need three good corners, not one great one. If your paying around 13% of your cap on one player, it better be someone who puts fear into a QB, not a corner.
As someone said above, they didnt trade for him. They have more draft picks than anyone in the NFL and have enough cap space.
I'm sure they would have liked a healthy Aldon Smith too. We could also use the pass rush, TE, RB, S, OL and QB the 49ers had last year. Once you have all that, you can chase corner. We don't have all that. We in fact have very little of that
A deal can still be a bad one for a team even if their hands were tied. No one really knows what was going on behind the scenes but I think it's fair to have an opinion based solely on the deal which on the surface looks like we got fleeced.
Exactly, when you take a teams #1 reciever away and you can roll coverage to the other side of the field to double the #2 and or tight end and slot guy it's hard for an offense that relies on that guy so much. Revis allowed us to have an extra man in the box to stop the run. Revis being out was a big part of our run defense struggling this past year. Revis is more then just a cb, he is like having an extra man on the field. There are testimonials in this- you see how upset his teammates are, you see how afc east teams are happy he's out of the division, and now NFC south teams are a bit mad to have to deal with him now. He's a once in a lifetime player that the jets actually drafted and hit own, that is rare. Oh well he's gone now and there's nothing we can do about just have to hope for the best from this draft and hopefully idzik can hit on these picks. 2013 GO JETS, sure will be rooting for Tampa to make some noise also though and for revis to lock down Julio jones
Jest would have got a compensatory 3rd in '14 even if Revis walked, after paying him $8 M or whatever for up to 16 games of his services in '13. All the Jets netted was a 1st. The Vikings got more for Harvin, a great player but not the best at his position and with character issues to boot. TB is on the hook for zero guaranteed money. Way to sell low on a guy who may very well go in the HOF wearing a Bucs jersey. Alex Smith was traded for a 2nd rounder when everybody in the world knew the 49ers had to deal him or cut him. According to the so-called experts, this draft is deep but not as top heavy as others. I don't see commensurate value in the #13 overall pick.
When Zac Dysert makes Revis look foolish, I hope everyone calms down. But, at least nyjunc has a new white whale to drone about for 300 pages.
IF the package is indeed the 13th and a conditonal 4th rounder in 2014, it's absolute garbage. Tampa Bay essentially gave up NOTHING to get the best CB in the game. And the Jets will have ended up trading their franchise player for a guard. Idzik completely blew it. His best bet would have been to just sit this deal out and trade Revis mid-season. The Vikes even got more for Percy Harvin who did everything in his power to be a pariah in Minny. Just another year for the CIRCUS!!! Now Idzik can officially get his clown nose!!!
