Pretty sure he is better friends with Chad Johnson who he also lobbying for a spot on the Jets. Fan of that too?
Yeah, that's almost as bad as saying a QB you never really watched in college is going to be a bust because you WANT him to be a bust. Oh... sorry.
I don't know that he is. I tend to look at what moves the Jets make and make an educated decision from there. If the sign Cro or go get someone to play the outside then the coaches don't think he is ready. If they don't make an effort to bring in a second guy to play the outside I will assume that the coaches think he can do the job and I will trust their decision making over ours. That goes for either way that this goes down. The coaches see a lot more than the handful of plays we as fans pick out to draw conclusions on players.
Kyle Wilson is never gonna significantly improve by being on the bench. And you sure as hell don't draft a nickel CB in the 1st round as opposed to upgrading the front seven. Cromartie is a luxury. I still lol at who Revis wants on this team: cromartie, asomugha, and chad johnson. All unlikely possibilities.
Of course in general I feel the same as you do about this general subject. But every once in awhile the Jets make a mistake I feel strongly about and sure enough it proves to be a mistake. I wasn't posting on these boards when they let Pete Kendall go without a real plan B, my perception being that relying on Eagle cast off Clarke and a scrub like Bender was no real Plan B. They sure were wrong about that one. But on the whole Wilson subject, ftr I myself think this is not a parallel situation, and not because I think Wilson is any better prepared to start than was the plan to have Clarke and Bender somehow amount to a starter level of quality at LG. It's because I personally am highly doubtful the Jets feel great about teh idea of Wilson being the starting #2 cb come opening day.
Depending how far this lockout goes the Jets may be forced to sign Cro if they hadn't planned on it already. Say we need to get the team ready in a few weeks I doubt the Jets will want to take their chances and see how it might go with such a limited amount of time. If the Jets had planned on not signing Cro and going with Wilson the current situation definitely hurts those plans.
I think there was in truth zero evidence out there that the Jets wanted to start Wilson. If they ran out of money and space, and Cro were offered too much elsewhere, he might have walked. But if they had truly wanted Cro to leave, I think they would have done something to so indicate.
Very true. Wilson wont improve sitting on the bench. However given the situation this team is in (i.e. a contender) he has to show you something that gives you a relatively strong indication that he can handle being a starter. Not only did he not do that last year, he didn't really do well enough to justify using him as a nickel CB. I would personally be looking for him to show significant improvement in that role before handing him a starting role.
