Am I the only one that wasn't all that worried about Revis his rookie year? I actually thought he played very well his rookie season.
You are not the only one. Fans tend to have selective memories. Even as a rookie, Revis was one of our best defensive players. Exactly. That's why I've been trying to shut down the comparisons. Wilson is having a typical rookie campaign for aCB while Darrelle's rookie year was atypical.
Think about our secondary his rookie year compared to now. Revis was probably the best guy in that secondary as a rookie. It was simply an option for other teams to pick on him. With our current secondary Wilson is the only safe bet to pick on often. Teams know they can get a few over on Cromartie but eventually he is gonna pick something off if you keep going at him.
My 2 cents. Wilson has yet to be beat for a TD. It will happen it just hasn't happened yet. Is he the only one who hasn't? And Wilson played primarily man in college. Check the history. And Bess was from Hawaii U. FYI. VW
Well if he keeps getting called for pass interference down on our end he won't ever get beat for a td! Seriously though, It's easy to see that your brother has the goods in man coverage. Even on the plays he has been beaten on he has been in pretty good position. He will get comfortable making a play on the ball in time and when that happens he will be a great corner.
I think the point of this bump wasn't to show that Revis, in his rookie year, was at the same stage of development as Kyle Wilson is right now. The point was to show that Revis, the best cornerback in football, was light years away from where he is right now. Like every New York Jet in the history of the game, K-Dub's biggest obstacle is the unreasonable expectations of the fan base. I don't care how well Wilson develops: he is not, nor will ever be, Darrelle Revis. Luckily, he doesn't need to be.
Of course he will never be Revis but playing along side him and learning from him in a few years he could be the best #2 in football. The main issue i have seen with him is after he gets called for a penalty he becomes less aggressive. KW will surprise some people maybe not so much this year but in 1 or 2 years he will be great.
So you're saying Wilson will not hold-out and will instead live up to the terms of the contracts that he signs ? Or were you refering to his playing ability ?
If I recall correctly, our run D was not very good in 2007. And as others have said, Revis didn't get picked on much because he was, sadly, the best DB on the field as a rookie. Still, he struggled at times. On the plus side, I thought Wilson did a great job on Fasano later in the game...
I know it's easier said then done but it's frustrating how Kyle Wilson never turns around and constantly gets flagged or beaten. If he just turned his head he bats the ball down or picks it off. But I'm not worried at all about him. Rookie corners get picked on.
What are we all still debating, here? Has anyone actually come out and said KW will never be good or that he's already, by week 3, a bust? Maybe I missed those posts... Any negativity I've seen/written has been about how poor he has played thus far (at times) and statements (at least for my part) that we need him to get better ASAP, especially with Revis' future contributions in question. The kid has the talent, he just needs to work on his fundamentals.
I see a lot of talent and potential in Wilson. Even the plays where he gets burned, it always seems like it's one small error he makes - turning his head too late, not putting his hands up, etc. I think the kid will be a stud in a couple of years.
