The sooner this organization drafts another star CB (not this year!) and forgets Revis the better.

every team is looking for that next star CB.
we drafted the top rated one as high as the #9 overall pick, and it hasn't worked out yet. what makes you think it will be so easy in future?
and if we are lucky enough to find one in 2016 or 2017 draft, what do we do until then?

this is entirely the reason the FA CB market has risen so much over the last 15 years.
everyone needs answers back there, and they aren't all that easy to come by.

Exactly, it's not like Revis is 36 and at the tail end of his career. He's arguably the best CB in the game right now (him and Sherman are 1a and 1b, whatever order you want to put them in), and he's still very much in his prime. It's a no-brainer if we can lure him back from the Pats!

I can understand why some fans don't like him personally, and/or think he will be too tough to negotiate contracts with. But we have to put our personal feelings aside for what's best for the team. And if Maccagnan can get him for a reasonable contract that is in line with market value for a player of his caliber, then he could help our team more than any other single player other than a QB. His presence on the back end makes everyone on defense better, and elevates the entire unit tremendously, especially in Bowles' scheme.

Revis is 30, he's going to want guaranteed money and years with his next contract, if it's not with a contender.
He may be worth big money this year, maybe next, but after that?
I don't think he comes back. I don't think he wants to play for Rex either.

Revis is actually still 29. he'll turn 30 over the summer.

you seem to know everything Revis will want, even tho it's not consistent with his past actions.
just the same, i'd rather Maccagnan find that out himself if he should hit FA. personally, i don't think the Pats let him go. they'll offer him something very attractive to stay.
If the Pats can't work it out, the Jets and Bills (as well as many others) will be in the running.

Its not a bold prediction, most all players on the back end of their careers, seek a long term deal with guaranteed money. But you may be right, maybe he signs a deal, then holds out.

He signed 2 contracts in the last two years without guarantees

You don't know, so why write off a guy without finding out first? Idzik took the same assumption last year. I'd prefer to not repeat the same mistakes again

Milliner becoming an above average starter is a more likely and frrrr cheaper scenario than Revis coming back

I don't really see any team giving Revis 16-20 mil. His coverage skills aren't what they used to be although he is still an all around great player. The only team I could really see overpaying like that is the Jets. Only because of the criticism Woody took on the chin for agreeing to trade him two years ago. NEP isn't going to give him that 20 mil he is due in 2015 which would mean a 25 mil cap hit. Even though Belichick loves the guy.

What makes you say "his coverage skills aren't what they used to be"??? That's the first I've heard of that...the consensus is that he's still one of the top 2 CBs in the NFL. He's still every bit the elite shutdown CB he always was. If he's lost anything, he's still better than anyone not named Richard Sherman.

IMO based on the few games I watched he got beat sometimes when in the past he almost never was. I think he's lost a few steps and of course the injuries. But his leadership skills and sheer competitiveness are still there and he obviously is smart enough to follow the Belichick game plan. Just my opinion and I'm not an expert. But he'll always be better than Sherman.

OK, that sounds like an accurate analysis to me .... so given what you just said, do you think it would make sense for us to make a play for him? Do you think he can still make a big impact on our defense?

Yes but not for way over the market money. I'd give him two years-$25 million all guaranteed.

I voted for Crow only. Not that I wouldn't want Mevis back. Truth be said he will not come back to us unless we back a Brinks truck into his garage.

I'm so sick of Revis envy and Revis idolatry and Revis threads. He is NOT worth the money he is paid and will command in free agency. I will be happy when he signs somewhere for 3-4 years and we can all stop talking about him. To me, he is still an overpaid, selfish, mercenary who was never good for the locker room. He hasn't played a game for the team in three seasons and people here act as if he left last week.

FACT: Revis was a big reason the Pats won the super bowl this year. He was the biggest difference between this year's Pats team and the previous teams that got close but couldn't get over the hump. There's no denying this fact, regardless of your hatred for Revi$, Mevis, or whatever other derogatory terms you want to hang on him (as if anyone here would turn down the money if it was offered to them, or if their agent negotiated it).
