Don't worry about Hack getting time. Mac is gonna make damn sure Hack gets all the times he needs. Even if it means keeping Petty sidelined next year. Mac is putting HIS stamp on the roster. New Bosses do things like that. I have a feeling if Petty didn't get injured in that last game, he would have been released.
It's not after the fact. It was widely written that the Jets were one of the teams interested in Dak pre-draft. The fact that they evaluated him and still made the bone head move of selecting Hack in round 2 when they could have had either Hack or Dak in round 4 is the issue more so than selecting Hack over Dak. 5 years from now Hack could wind up better than Dak but there is no reason to jump the gun and pick him in round 2 when he would have been there in round 4.
Mac drafted petty also and moved up to get him. There was no way petty was getting cut this year. The plan was to have two young qbs under contract going into next year. I am almost certain we see petty this year unless we statt ripping off wins. So almost certain
Most experts labeled this past qb class as pretty weak and yet we are seeing rookies having to come in under circumstances unforeseen (injuries) and have played relatively well. No one saw Dak playing the way he has so I can't knock the Hackenberg pick to the degree I've seen. Also, Jerry Jones wanted to trade up into the 1st round and pick Paxton Lynch. QB's are probably one of, if not the most hard to predict positions in the NFL. The Cowboys stepped in shit when they picked Dak but let's also consider that we are 5 games in and people are anointing him as a future HOF. Let's see what happens going forward. As for Hackenberg, if you look at the tape from his true freshman year to the ones he spent with Franklin there is a noticeable difference. Hackenberg will need time and a ton of mental and physical reps in order to fix his mechanics. I think it was a gamble and agree that he was drafted too early but I cannot write off a 21 year kid. He was the #1 QB recruit coming out of high school for a reason.
While I hate the cowboys more than any other team in the NFL, I give them credit because they have made an effort to stay a balanced team with a strong offensive line and running game. If Prescott becomes the playmaking QB they have been hoping Romo would become, they can make a deep run in the playoffs this year. I watched the Dallas and cincy game, and that Dallas oline reminded me to a degree of the old Dallas line where they would manhandle the defensive opposition and wear them down with the run. As long as they don't become pass happy and abandon the run, they will win the NFC east. As far as Hack goes, I think he can be a good QB, however, I don't think this CS is good enough to develope him.
The Dallas O-line is the best in the league IMO. As for hack, if this coaching staff continues the way it has I will certainly agree that they are not capable of making Hack into a competent starting qb. Let's hope I'm wrong but Bowles and his staff are quickly losing a ton of credibility.
we have 0 points on offense in the 2nd half of the last 3 games. that's poor coaching more then anything
Geno is still on his rookie deal and that made him bulletproof. There was no where for Petty to go once Fitz signed.
I don't like the patriots either, but they have at least won consistently and deserve some credit for what they have done. The cowboys are treated like they have had the same success as the Patriots, they have been a .500 team for 20 years now and deserve no credit for that.
It looks like all 4 QB's are practicing this week. Can't tell who is getting 1st team reps other than Shitzpatrick.
Yea but his soph, junior and senior years were crap - not sure if you're going to be able to fix that.
It's a big gamble. I think he has the mental and physical potential to be a star in this league. The whole thing is can we fix his mechanics and also rebuild his confidence. I pray we can because we need a franchise QB in the worst way.
Bowles just doesn't make adjustments at halftime. They stick with the exact same gameplan they went into the game with at halftime. it's why we always struggle in the second half. That and when we get behind, it means passing which isn't our QB's strong suit.
yup. we need to start making 2nd half adjustments. look how the bengals adjusted against what we were doing on defense and torched us
So glad we spent $12m on him this year. We definitely couldn't have gotten the same or better production from any three of our other QBs on rookie contracts and we DEFINITELY didn't need the cash anywhere else.
