Ok fine but Robert Gallery is still a good RT and if you look back at it hes worth a 1st rounder but not top 5.

i dont want you to get the impression that i would never take oline in rd 1.. im just believe its a top 5 pick it should be a playmaker. as for gallery do you think the raiders still would take him what #2 or 3 if the knew he was going to turn into a good RT? or do you think the where bankng on Franchise LT when they made the choice?

Franchise LT but then think of this do you think the when the raiders look back it that their happy Robert Gallery panned out to be a good LT or a bust all together. He wasnt worth a top 5 pick your right unless their gaurenteed to be a LT.

Gallery has been injured quite a bit and we haven't seen what he can do as a LT yet, and due to injuries he had to play RT.

I can't believe you guys are squabbling back and forth with Tim Couch's and Courtney Brown's galore. You go BPA with a pick that high, whether it is D'Brick, Leinart, or Mario and you won't wind up with an Akili Smith.

Unfortunately after Leinart, Mario, and Bush there are 5 or 6 guys with about equal value (D'Brick, Hawk, Davis, Ngata, Bunkley, Huff) so IMO trading down and picking up a 2nd for a team that wants Young or Cutler is the best option. Then at 6 or 7 we can get Davis or Bunkley, who are about equally valued to D'Brick or Hawk.

Gallery hasn't been a bust at all, he was just biding his time, taking one for the team and playing RT his first two years, because they had Barry Sims at LT, who was doing an admirable job. Sure, the line as a whole was bad, but that's as much do to Collins and the offense, who, as a whole, were out of sync almost constantly. Gallery will be moving to LT this year, and will justify why he was taken #2 overall. All of his talents are suited to LT, just wait and see.

That's precisely why I've made the argument before that you want a QB before an LT. First off, you don't even know if LT or RT is the important position until you have the QB, and benching Steve Young because you have a franchise LT would have been ridiculous. Secondly, one player can't improve the O-line anyway, you need coaching and a group of good players. That's why O-line is something that needs to be coached and you need good quantity for. A great QB pays clear dividends over a good QB, but one great position on the O-line won't help with the rest of it, and even if the rest is average, it still won't create completed passes. An average O-line is perfectly acceptable, but an average QB generally isn't. All other things being roughly equal, the team with the better QB usually wins in the playoffs.

Well, by LT, I, and I'm assuming most people, just mean the blindside tackle. Because most QBs are Righty, the LT, for most teams, is the guy who needs to be the more athletic of the two, because defenses want their speed rushers attacking from that blindside. If the QB were lefty, then the roles would be reversed, and the former LT would just play the same position basically at RT. Still the blindside tackle, same skills required, but has to learn to shuffle his feet the other way.

You've got it right. Ask anyone what they thought of Gallery after his rookie year and they'd tell you he's a beast. Started 15 games at RT and let up 3 sacks. Shut down Julius Peppers among others.

Last year they switched o line coaches, went to a zone blocking scheme, and it was a disaster for the whole offense, Gallery shouldn't be singled out. And it doesn't help when Collins takes 5 seconds to make a read you're supposed to make in 2 seconds.

The point is, as someone else in this thread said, you take the best player available. If that's an o lineman, so be it. It certainly worked out for Pace, Ogden, and Boselli, and Gallery's showing promise. Personally, I don't think Ferguson is one of the best 5 players in the draft. It will be interesting to see what the Jets do...

Unless he is a bona fide stud, you do not, I repeat YOU DO NOT Use a Top Ten Pick on OL.
    Too much money
Can get more value using that pick on aanother position

I thought Jordan did very well the first half of the season. He kind of wore out though, probably got tired legs not being used to taking all those carries.
