Wait, now all of a sudden everyone changed their minds and want him back? Did he become a much better coach in the 2 days after he was fired or something?
The logic here never ceases to amaze me. Last week 90% of the board is calling for Mangini's head and now it was a mistake because we haven't hired his replacement in 3 days? Amazing. Some of the excuses: His coordinators were the cause and need to be replaced. Give him another year with new coordinators and see what he can do. OK. First off - being that Manidiot would be in the last year of his contract, what decent assistant could be hired knowing that he's a lame duck coach? Who was it that put these clowns in the positions to begin with? Yes, the same idiot. Is it not the HC that is also responsible for evaluating and replacing said coordinators when they fail in their positions? IMO both should have been fired last year. I don't think anyone could argue that Sutton should not have been replaced. Favre is to blame. OK, yes Favre should take some of the blame, but the lions share goes to the idiot. Is it Favres fault that there is absolutely no in game adjustments, terrible play calling on both sides of the ball, playing not to lose instead of playing to win, abandoning the blitz, misusing several players (especially Leon), and a total lack of motivation? Favre wasn't even here for last years 4-12 disaster. The fact is that Eric was outcoached in more than half the games, and IMO 75% of the time. There was only 4 wins I think we were dominant in, and the others we won in spite of the coaching. The Buffalo game we shouldn't have won, and the others we held on for dear life or got a last second score. That is not good coaching. Lets look at both the Phags and the Cheaters. They went 11-5 and 10-6 and had the same strength of schedule. We cleary have more talent than the Phags and they were coming off a 1-15 season and new coaching staff. The Cheaters lost Brady and had a boat load of starters on IR. The difference - coaching. This is a team built to win now. You're not going to keep your job, nor deserve to, when you have a complete collapse like we did given the glaring coaching weaknesses. Simply amazing.
Norv Turner was with the redskins for 7 seasons. His record was 49-59-1 So staying power only works for coaches who were good to begin with. Sadly, i like Norv Turner...
Billy Mays is now selling a fired coach competency turnaround kit (with oxyclean) on T.V. , so it's possible.
he was never a great coach. He almost let t the defensive game plan blow the NE game. We won that on a lucky coin toss.
What about Steve Spagnuolo? young, bright, aggressive and a winner! he has something to prove, Cowher has nothing to prove. what about Cowher's last year with the Steelers? Selective memory is not a good thing.........example .......Favre!
You are correct sir... Nicely put. However, I do think that Mangini had bad game management skills. Maybe they would have improved, maybe not. I wouldn't have minded him sticking around for one more year to prove us all wrong. After all, 9-7 is not the end of the world. Last year we were 4-12, that's a huge improvement - 5 frickin games. I won't be disappointed if Shanahan comes here. I just hope we give the guy 5 years before we kick him to the curb. Like DennisByrd said, you can't be going through HCs like disposable diapers. Good things take time.
Because all of these folks you are mentioning are a bunch pantsy ass fools that just bitch and moan about everything and everyone regarding the Jets.
You guys are unfreakinbelievable. 95% of this board wanted him gone, and now that we got our 2nd Christmas in December, you want to hire him back?! WTF is wrong with you people. At least give the FO a month to find a coach. I can see you guys posting a thread like this if we were on the cusp of bringing Herm or Kotite back, but jesus h christ, calm the fuck down. I'm as pessimistic as the next guy, but I would never make a post this goddamn stupid.
I say rehire him, then fire him again, then rehire him, then fire Brett Favre, then rehire him, buy PSLs, sell PSLs, then rehire Chad, then bench it for Clemens, then fire Ty Law, then rehire him, then make Clemens a PK and put Nugent as qb, then fire Mangini, then rehire him, then hire Cowhe, then fire him because he doesn't like Favre, Clemens, Nugent and Law and we're dysfunctional, then put Tanny as HC and Woody as qb, then fire them, then sell PSLs, then put the entire Gang Green posters as HCs, then fire them, then rehire Mangini the fire him and put Cimini and Boland as HCs, then fire them.
We probably would have made the playoffs with Chad but then we would have had to deal with Mangini's terrible coaching for a few more years. Sometimes sacrifices are worth it.
You have restored my belief that there are some reasonable Jets fans on this site. Most of the replies are confusing to me. Do people actually read the threads before replying? At least the first post? Seems like people jump to conclusions and rush to get their negative jibberish posted. The idea behind posting on a Jets fan website is awesome. Throw out ideas. Get feedback. Get updates on things. I guess I don't understand most of the users on this site. Maybe its the East Coast mentality. Lets all be honest no one will ever accuse New Yorkers of being the brightest group in the world.
Obviously, theey won't rehire the guy after he was fired, but I do think that Mangini is a better option than some of the candidates mentioned (Both Shotty's, Callahan). If we hire Rex Ryan, Steve Spagnuolo, Mike Shanahan, or Lezlie Frazier, I believe it was a good move, but none of the other candidates that we've heard are better for this team than mangini.
