when you are a shit punter that gets cut, you hand your jersey over to a top 5 overall pick. you don't get anything.
Does anyone have any info on TJ Conley? did Westhoff work him out prior to draft? They must like him if they haven't signed another Punter for competition yet. Conley wasn't one of the top P prospects, so I'm just curious.
Conley had the highest punting average in the nation at 47.4 yards per punt. I don't know what he did in the years prior, but that was the highest average in college football years.

For those special teams nuts like me.. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/561853 TJ Conley Height 6'3" Weight 212 Overview The All-American and All-WAC honoree was the nation's leading punter in 2008 with a 47.4-yard average. Conley would have been a four-year starter for the Vandals if he hadn't broken his left (non-kicking) leg during practice after four games his freshman season. He came back to average 45.3 yards per punt the following season. Analysis Positives: Tall with muscular lower body and adequate upper-body development. … Strong leg -- his longest punt of 2008 went 74 yards against Utah State, about 69 in the air. … Quick get-off (between 1.2 and 1.25 seconds), usually with a two-step delivery. … Can turn the ball over in the air to add distance. … Handles errant snaps in any direction and still gets the kick off quickly. … Was a good high school athlete and his skills are still displayed downfield in coverage (four solo tackles in 2008). … Holds for field goals. Negatives: Lacks hang-time on most punts (only about four seconds on 40-45 yard kicks, as little as three seconds on shorter punts), which could lead to long returns in the NFL. … Must prove he can handle poor weather conditions as he kicks in a dome for half of his games, and played away games in California, Utah, Arizona and Hawaii during 2008. … Inconsistent delivery, sometimes adding a half-step backward when receiving the snap. … Has lapsed in concentration, dropping the snap, when sensing pressure.
Hodges was just fine. I liked the guy, and he was consistent. Someone who was used to punting in the outside weather climate, not a dome. Good work, we now are going to rely on a guy who is not suited for kicking in the wind, or in poor conditions. Someone who can't get hangtime on his kicks. AWESOME!!!!!
Sh-t, I always buy the wrong jersey. Is there an easy way to remove the "Hodges" and replace it with "Sanchez"...
