I'm not totally into this Manny shit. This has been too good of a series to care either way, but I got the feeling that Victor Martinez had that trot for the sole purpose of copying Manny. I don't think that's classless. I think it's hilarious.
Yeah, he has had only one quality start since the middle of August. It will be interesting to see how he does today and how long they stay with him if he gets into trouble. Beckett on 2 days rest could be really dangerous if he loses a couple of MPH off his fastball.
Many can be an idiot. Manny will stand and stare at hit homeruns. Manny will take mystery time off each season. Manny will have strange lapses in the field. However, Manny is anything BUT lazy. And, when the guy is locked-in, there isn't another hitter like him in the game. He doesn't take at-bats off. Even when he's slumping, he's working it. The guy can turn an 0-2 count into a hit or BB like no one else. I think that sometimes umpires even defer to Manny, because of his keen eye for the strikezone. The AL East demands run production and stout pitching. It's also clear that the two go hand-in-hand. You can't survive the season winning games 3-1, any more than you can winning them all 9-7. If you take Manny out of the middle of the lineup, there are only a small handful of guys with whom you could replace him - and you need one of them. I still don't have to smile and enjoy those moments of "Manny being Manny," but I'll live with those knowing that it's the price I have to pay for the kind of hitter he is.
I've heard this, and he has a great eye for the strikezone, but when I see Manny being out of shape and unable to run, and his UNWILLINGNESS to actually try on the field when it comes to defense and baserunning, it's hard to think anything but "lazy"
Sunday Jack... I'm banking on his last pitch for the Red Sox being out in Colorado next weekend in let's say.....the 7th inning (or so). This weekend in Boston sports. -- 150,000 people line the banks of the Charles to watch the 43rd annual Head of the Charles Regatta (1/3 of that crowd being hot college cuties)! -- The upstart Boston Bruins beat their original 6 rival the NY Rangers at the Garden yesterday. -- The Celtics have reloaded and are considered the favorite in the east. -- The Sox beat the Cleveland Indians at Fenway to force a game 7 -- The 6-0 Patriots travel to Miami to take on the Fins -- The BC Eagles have an off week, but will be ranked number 2 in the Nation on Monday. It's not easy being a Boston sports fan. It can be difficult finding time to watch all the action!
The Steelers/Broncos game tonight might be the lowest rated Sunday Night game since Jets/Saints in November of 2001. I've done no research on this, but I'm not sure why any sports fan will be watching football tonight.
maybe people like jetophile who hate baseball. I'll be watching the ALCS like I have been all series. Maybe flip occasionally to SNF, but not if I have to miss action
can't be very confident in either starting pitcher, but it could come down to bullpens, and you have to give boston a solid edge there
Don't even bother watching. The red sox will be up 6 runs by the 3rd inning and will coast their way to another world series. And then in 3 months or so...the Pats will do the same thing in football. Sports hell is here to stay.
that's twice this series that manny got credit for a hit on a ground ball out. once because ortiz stupidly ran into a manny ground ball (which would've been an easy out, but they give a hit) and now because the friggin' infield works for the home team and turns a DP into an RBI single
