I have faith in Beckett, but I think he's still off his game from injury.

But this was a real good win. Nice effort by Daisuke.

Here's one of the big differences between the Red Sox team that lost eight (?) games at Tropicana and this Red Sox team: Back then in set up, Okajima was struggling and Timlin was getting walloped. Now, Okajima comes in and gets Pena to fly out, leading into Masterson, who throws a perfect double-play ball to Longoria. Totally different bullpen.

I like Eck, and I like Harold Reynolds, but somehow this TBS panel of analysts just doesn't work. Maybe it's Cal Ripken that screws it up.

Going into tonight I did not like the Sox chances at all. I felt a sinking in my stomach that Dice-K was going to have another one of those dreaded 5 inning, 3 runs allowed, 120 pitch marathons, which would be followed by the 'pen giving up at least 1-2 more runs in innings 6-8. The Sox are certainly in good shape now if Becket can get it together.

Excellent game. The Sox have already accomplished what they had to do, win at least one in Tampa. Great start.

Also, if TBJF85 doesn't post between now and the game tomorrow and then posts if the Devil Rays win a game, he should be banned for jackassery.

At least he knows the name of the team. You have to give him credit for that.

They will always be the Devil Rays. I refuse to call them anything else.

i have not posted in tgg for 2 weeks or so for good reasons, but i just got caught up w/tgg, and read a lot of what that, idiot, moron, anoying, tbjf85 said, and jesus christ, can a mod please suspend this guy again?

early in the season i was rooting for the rays [i live in tampa] but as the season went on, i really started hating them, mostly due to there unknowledgeable, bandwagon fans.

so i say go sox, and f the rays.

i know if the rays lose this series, they'll say, well were happy, it was a sucessfull season, and yes it was, but do you play to make the playoffs or win the world series?

that is the BIG difference between, met, yankee and sox fans, we dont play just to make the playoffs, we play to win the world series, anything else is dissapointing.

Like I said, the Red Sox were fortunate that Beckett didn't pitch until Game 3 in the ALDS.

Rays lineup is weak, but Beckett isn't that good right now.

    2-2 headed to the 2nd.

I saw fans walking to the exists with one out in the bottom of the 9th inning. I hope for the self respect of the entire Tampa/St. Pete region that those were confident Red Sox fans trying to beat the traffic.

Always kills me when Pedroia shows power. 5'6" 150lbs. Swings as ferociously as anyone I've ever watched play.

Kazmir really doesn't have it, but neither does Beckett.

Red Sox have a better lineup, but the game is in TB.

    Toss-up

    These announcers are priceless.

At the beginning of the game:

"Beckett says he's feeling right. When a pitcher of his caliber is feeling right, you better watch out."

    Now:

    Every excuse in the book.

"He's used to getting his routine 5 days rest, so you throw a pitcher out of his routine and this is what happens."

First of all, 4 days rest is normal rest, not 5. Second of all, how about admitting you're wrong? Dumbasses.
