For the love of god please don't let the Sox win this. Please PLEASE. The douchebaggery has already started here in Boston this morning.
Let's sum it up: The Red Sox just lost 2 out of 3 at home to the Rays, and Boston had their three best pitchers going. Now they go to Tampa Bay for two games and in Game 6 they start their worst pitcher by far against Tampa Bay's best pitcher. Additionally, the Red Sox and Rays are both much better at home.
I know what you're saying, but they have beaten the odds in 04 and 07 and I'm starting to get that sick feeling in my stomach that they're going to do it again. And to add insult to injury, the least favorable team is representing the NL. To be honest I didn't even finish watching the game last night. Had to wake up early for work so I turned the TV off at the end of 6. Few hours later I was awoken by the unmistakable "Yankees Suck" chant. That's not a typo. The mother fuckers were really doing the Yankees Suck chant. I know they're drunk college kids and all but fuck. FUCK FUCK FUUUUUCK Boston.
Before the 2007 season, he went into camp ripped. Schilling was talking about the huge year he was going to have before he had a huge year. This year, I didn't hear the same things. I think he's been hurt still. But I also think that his approach to 2008 wasn't the same as the prior year. That said, he didn't LOSE Game 2. He didn't contribute to a win, but the Red Sox could have and should have still taken that game. Not even a Timlin reference here, but if I see that guy ever again, it will be too soon.
the only reason he didn't actually lose the game for them is because the bats were on fire. Horrendous postseason.
I remember seeing this photo last February and not really thinking much of it, but with Becket's inconsistency and injury troubles this year it's hard to not wonder if he took it easy last off-season and is now feeling the negative effects. A 28 year old professional athlete should not look like that after several months of intense workouts. He didn't loose game 2, but he sure as hell did nothing to help win it. If he has even a mediocre start in that game, and goes 5 innings allowing 3 runs the Sox win that game and the entire series is changed. But hey, if Schilling could do it with a dead guy's tendon in his ankle, Becket shouldn't have too much trouble with a beer-belly and a tight hip
Devil CC Sabathia, Devil "Big Ass" Sid Fernandez, and Devil David Wells were fat slobs and pitched well at times.
Wakefield is one Boston's best 3? The Rays may win, but it took them 12 innings just to split the first two. This is playoffs. If you went by regular season, the Sox would never have knocked off the Yankees in 04, or the Angels this year.... ...and the idea that Beckett can't step up with a Schilling like performance is wishful thinking. Beckett, like Schilling has a history of coming up big in big games. Nobody thought Schilling had a chance in 04 after the Yanks shelled him first time around either.
The reason everyone remembers Schilling's performance is that it was extremely unlikely. He was injured and clearly struggling to be effective. His performance shows it's possible for an injured pitcher to magically turn it around mid-series, not that it's likely. Mystique and aura are nothing if the player doesn't have the skills, and right now I just don't know if Becket has them.
Absolutely. The three best Boston starters are Lester, Daisuke, and Wakefield, in that order. You want to argue Paul Byrd is better than Wakefield?
