It'd be nice if our defense forced turnovers.

Simple. The Patriots aren't good. The Bengals are a Super Bowl level team.

Yeah, Miami. Another inconsistent team. Go figure.

Well with Rex's not good record against the fish, looks like counting on a sweep of those cakeholes is not something i can put in the bank, either.

Dierking's question is concerning, too. Even if Smith sticks and is acceptable going forward, what happens to the core group of vets? I think that remains Ferguson, Mangold and Harris, but those I would say at the beginning of last year now do not include Revis obviously gone, Cro hurt and with too big a contract, and Holmes who too many fans hate.

On the other hand we can now safely add Wilkerson as a core player. I think. And Richardson may be becoming one. And wouldn't it be great if Davis got to that level?

Okay, I am having one of my rare bouts of optimism there.

But seriously, even Ferguson I don't think is the player he once was. Harris actually looks better this year than last, but I still think he's overpaid. And Mangold just doesn't look like the player he once was, either.

Certainly it is possible one or more of them might go into decline before the end of 2015. Then what?

That was was a different Dalton last night. He was off on a lot of throws. Behind receivers all night and a lot of dropped passes.

last week everything Cinci did was perfect ..each throw was dead on target.

this is what football is, has anyone been paying attention through the years? one week a team can look incredible, the next week they can look bad. No team will play as well as Cincy did last week every week. They had a short week on the road, lost their best defensive player early, one of their best offensive weapons late and Miami played well so they deserve credit. We played lousy, Cincy played great last week, this week Cincy played ok and Miami played well.

    It's the good ol'

Team X sucks, and we got killed by team Y, but team X beat team Y, we must really suck! AHHHH!!!

Anything can happen anything in any game. This is true in any sport and especially football. The crappiest teams can beat the best of teams any week. If Jacksonville went out and beat KC or Denver, would it be shocking? Yes, but it's football and anything is possible.

That said, the game was also on Thursday which have notoriously been sloppy crappy games. They really need to stop this Thursday nonsense and just go back to having Thursday football once per year (Thanksgiving).

The Bengals did not beat the Jets by 40 with both playing great. The Jets were awful. D couldn't stop the Bengals at all, O couldn't score, and Geno actually scored more points for the Bengals. The Bengals are not 40 points better than the Jets, just as the Dolphins are not 2 points better than the Bengals. That is just how the games ended up.

Case in point the Jets lost to New England 45-3 in late 2010, just to follow up a few weeks later with Shonn Green "goodnight New England/good season New England" touchdown. Last night, Miami earned some nice takeaways. The Jets defense has been lacking in that department.

I swear people on this forum act like this is the first ever NFL season they are watching. If team A beats team B, then Team B beats team C, it doesnt mean team A is better than team C. People fail to get this though.

I think it depends who teams A,B and C are.

If Team A is the Bengals, team B is the Dolphins and team C is the Jets.

Team A beat team C, team B beat team A but hasn't played team C. Team A is better than Team C not as good as Team B but we don't know if Team B is better or worse than team C.

If Team A is the Pats, Team B is the Bengals and Team C is the Jets.
Team C is better than Team A but still worse than team B.

If Team A is the Pats, Team B is the Dolphins and Team C is the Jets.
Team A is better than team B but worse than Team C. Team B and Team C hasn't been determined yet.

    Basically you're spot on.

You're a little late there buddy, maybe try actually watching the game to answer your questions. This thread is a pile of hot steamy dogshit with no analysis whatsoever other than "we lost 49-9". Thanks for the breaking news, pal! We really needed a new thread to tell us that.

We have a lot of young guys including a young QB, so there will be ups and downs. These silly over reactionary threads after each loss are really getting old. This same team got beat by the Dolphins last night. I wish the Jets played the Bengals last night and the Dolphins last sunday. I bet things would have been much different. Sometimes it's just bad timing. Sometimes you just play a bad game. Any given Sunday. If we beat the Saints this week will you make another thread declaring us SB contenders?

I saw this as a very difficult game for Cinci
    A short-week road game,
    Cinci overconfident,
Miami teed off by a tough loss

Outcome not that surprising, nor an indication that the Dolphins are better than the Jets

Did this poster ever follow the NFL? How old R U, 10?. We are 4-4, who cares who we lost to, who we beat and in what order. We are rebuilding with a rookie QB and we are 4-4 with a home game before the bye. Sign me up. Now go back and watch Rug Rats

    Barcs,

We all know a win is a win. But Cincy creamed the Jets, and Miami barely won at home on a short week. Imo these Thursday night games give a real advantage to the home team. In other words it's not just a case of one team beat another team that beat another team, etc...

And if the Jets beat NO, to my mind it will depend on how they do. But that is theoretical. Let me say it this way - I would be surprised to see the Jets win unless NO beats themselves with turnovers and the like. They have just too much talent, are basically a veteran team where it counts, don't seem to have too many injuries to key players, and are very well coached.

We had a bad day. Where 4-4 with virtually no talent on offense with a rookie QB. Things aren't that bad when you truly think about it.

The Bengals are a much better team at home then they are on the road. They lost to Cleveland and almost lost to Buffalo on the road and just lost to Miami. We had to play them at home which is a much tougher task. I was expecting a loss but 49-9 was much worse than I thought. We just haven't been able to put 2 good games together.
