I don’t really know that it was a problem reading the defense though. Fields was air mailing the ball all day. I think he made some of the right reads that would’ve resulted in chunk plays. He had a hard time yesterday layering the ball over a linebacker and underneath a safety over the middle. I agree though, the offensive gameplan and scheme looked pretty good again. Sucks that we sort of had to abandon the run pretty early.
Yep, I wish he was just reading the field wrong. He was unfortunately reading it wrong and also making terrible throws. I saw one beat guy point it out this morning but I hope someone does an all-22 of the throws Fields DIDN'T make. There was one to Lazard in the second quarter that would have gone for at least 20. He checked down to Breece for about 4. The first and second team knew to bail though. Outside of Mayfield and Darnold that usually means the guy sucks.
I get that you may not think so. I 100% DO think so…this is who he is. Wishing it were different won’t make it so. He missed wide open guys…that throw to the RB in the flat had nothing but open field in front of him and he throws a hard bullet off target. Then he misses an open guy on the very next play. He is Zach. Inaccurate as fuck.
No doubt he had a shit game. But he also had a fantastic game. It's been two games with Engstrand, and while it certainly does not look great now, I want to see it play out some more before attempting to trade or keeping as a bridge next year. There is no reason to rush and make a decision now.
I understand, and you are being very logical also. But at this point I would not trade and just see it play out. What's losing us games right now consistently is mostly coaching and defense, he actually put us in position to have 1-1 record. What's the worst that can happen: we pick a QB next year and he is the bridge? That's fine. And he if keeps playing like he did yesterday, we could even start Tyrod. But I don't think it will happen.
Agree…there’s not much to do for it now…we chose him and we are pretty much stuck with him this year. I fully expect we will be drafting a QB with our first pick next year. Fields would have to have a pro bowl type year for that NOT to happen, and I don’t think he has that in him. At this point, we are riding with Fields and will win or lose with him, and likely lose more than we win. And in the end, that’s fine for a first year HC … as long as the rest of the team develops into the type of team AG claims to want to be…so far our D has looked ass in two games. So far we still have been killing ourselves with penalties and undisciplined play, and the shit part is our mistakes come at the WORST possible times. Key penalties on long third downs that let the opponent keep the ball. Turnovers in our own territory. Just bad shit. So for all the talk about discipline and accountability, we’ve not seen any of it in the first two games. Already, in week 2, we saw our team mail it in by halftime. That is not the winning culture AG wants to build.
im honestly not reacting much to his performance at all by starting this thread. He’s a throwaway QB and this is a rebuilding season. If we can get some pieces for him we should try it. Kinda like when we had Bridgewater and got something nice for him
In first game yes. As I said, Hurts is his ceiling. In the second game more like Zach Wilson. But I want to see a few more before concluding.
Also in regards to the Bengals, who the hell needs 3 months for a toe. Tape it up and get out there Joe burrow lost my respect
Hardly his worst game of his career, people on this board overreacted to his first game, I know how ironic a Jets fan overreacting, he'll only get worse from here.
No, it really was his worst game, career low QBR 1.1: https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1967565307557388627 Pretty hard to do worse than that.
