Ganaway has practiced and is banged up. He walked away from today's practice session. Ya think that maybe KcKnight could learn how to block? I do. Guys are always pretty fast to put the guy down but he showed special talent last year. He is not just a special team player. He will get his chance to show what he brings to the LOS this year!
Unless somebody dramatically improves I don't see how RB can be a strength. Greene can't block or catch & he's not much of a tackle breaker either. The other RB are pretty much unknowns. It's also not a given the Jets OL will be dominant or very good this year. Mangold - great D'Brick - played like crap last season and made the pro bowl on reputation. He was far from pro-bowl LT productivity last season. Slauson - played decent last season but coming off some surgery. Hopefully, he can return to form which is a better than average but extremely cheap LG. Moore - played pretty well last season but he's one year older. WFH - no need to even comment. ==== The Jets goal might be Ground & Pound but we'll have to wait and see if they've got the talent to pull it off.
I'm not seeing it unless Powell or McKnight step up. Greene can be solid behind a good line, but lacks speed or elusiveness. After him, it's a bunch of mid/low draft picks that have shown brief flashes of potential but no star ability.
We had Martin and then Washington and Jones and then LT and now we have Greene. Really? This is a strength? One more time, the Jets desperately need a feature back.
This is why I'm getting skeptic about the 3DB spot, Powell I've been hearing has been good in pass-protection and that's what we need. Someone has to improve their weakness, because we can't switch between McKnight and Powell on 3rd down, if teams know they can't block or catch
1st post here, hope to add to the conversation. I don't see it as a strength at all. Greene is an average back imo. I don't see the hype in Mcknight. He's been a bust so far and until we see the playmaking ability, in situations against 1st team defenses, I don't see that changing. However, I think this team is going to run so much that they have a chance of breaking the top 10 in yards per game because of the carries. It could be a situation where the stats look good, but the actual product isn't all that great.
All your reasons are the point of it being a "hidden" strength. People don't give Greene any credit, but the guy is a straight bruiser. Schotty had no clue how to use him. His YPC is over 4 for his career, and I'm fairly confident he'll take the next step this year. I don't think he's anything like an ELITE back, but he's a bruiser and you need that if you plan on running the rock 30-35 times a game. Joe McKnight is a young guy with incredible speed and shiftiness which is what you need as a second back when Greene is your first guy. He will break some big plays on offense this year, book it. The last is Powell, who is the ultimate unknown. All the beat reporters are singing his praises this training camp, so there's at least some optimism there. Just saying, don't sleep on this unit.
I hope Greene learns something from Curtis Martin's work ethic. Curtis Martin physically wasn't dominant in any given area but his work ethic. If Greene could learn to work 75% as hard as Curtis he could have a very good career. He's got a good motor, good balance with low center of gravity, and seems to be patient finding the hole. I believe he's just like Curtis in that if he works at his trade like his life depended on it he could be a very good running back.
There was a running back with Green Bay named Jim Tylor. He was 6-1 and 214 and had a pretty good career. His longest run in his best year was 51yards. I'd settle for a year like that.
