You guys are right, it's only one pre-season game for Ratliff. My concern though, is that I see zero progress from Clemens. I didn't see him get better as a QB last season and after seeing him last night he looks like he has made no progress since then. In week 17 last season he looked like the same guy that played the first 3 quarters against the Ravens. That fourth quarter (ravens game) was nice but we haven't seen that guy since, have we? Maybe he has to get used to the extra time he's going to have behind our new o-line (which looked very good in pass protection IMO), but he really does still look lost out there.

Ratliff on the other hand has reportedly made tremendous strides since last year. We've been hearing it all training camp. Last night just solidified those reports in my mind. He looked cool, calm and collected and made plays. He did not look lost like Clemens.

As for him playing against the 2nd and 3rd stringers, that's a fair concern. Obviously it's not time to call him the next Joe Montana. Clemens looked lost against the 2nd stringers just like he did against the first stringers though. Ratliff faced the 2nd stringers and looked good.

I'm not giving up on Clemens yet, but I'm growing more skeptical as time continues to go by and I see zero progress.

They may try to hide him on the PS. it worked with Ratliff last year, but Ainge is a bigger name, and you risk another team claiming him.

Both noodle arm and KC couldn't win the QB position, fact. Ratliff has been very impressive in camp and again in pre-season. Ainge is a rookie. Favre will start but whos after that? My gut tell me it's going to be Raliff, my eyes confirms this. Mistakes are made all the time about which QB starts. Why is it all the great ones come out fron nowhere? This is our guy, we have to keep him as a two or a three. KC is really screwed up right now especially since it him and noodle arm couldn't win the starting QB job so we got Favre. KC just went from possibly starting to being a second or a third QB to maybe even traded or released. Do we move on and admit it was a mistake to draft him or do we admit it was a mistake to draft Ainge? Why would we continue to draft QBs if we were satisfied with the ones on roster? Keep Ratliff unless KC and Ainge shows something. Regardless of the draft the best player should always play.

The best thing you can do as a knowledgeable football fan is believe what you see with your own eyes.

    ummm no.

Kellen Clemens, as odd as this sounds, is the only QB on our roster with experience in this offense during a regular season game. If we need to insert another QB in the middle of a game, Clemens is the only guy who makes any sense.

It's the preseason! and only one game, at that! Based on this logic, Marquell Blackwell would have been our QB to take over for Vinny in 2002.

As for Ainge, he's the guy the front office invested a draft pick in. I'd much rather keep him around than a camp-fodder QB who had a few good series' in the first preseason game.

If Ratliff makes it through waivers, which he probably will, and ends up on our practice squad, then great.

I remember when a kid named Tom Brady came out of nowhere when the older QB went down. Hate to make the comparison because of the backlash that can follow it. But it is a good point of reference. Hell, Tony Romo was the same story too. He was undrafted as well.

He was also throwing to 3rd and 4th stringers as well as playing behind a line of 3rd and 4th stringers. He looked a lot better than Clemens in his mechanics and awareness. Plus he's had a very good camp by all accounts.

I'd personally like to see him play against the starters next week for at least a couple of series (after Favre of course). You don't know if you have a diamond in the rough unless you give him a shot.

I wouldn't be surprised if we carried 4 QB's. Or maybe we'll steal one from the Cheaters book, and place Ainge on the IR after he stubs a toe.

I just get the feeling he's Training camp and Pre-season fodder, fodder of course that's out performing our QB of the future and Miami's new QB. The ridiculous thing is that Ainge has no chance of being productive for a few seasons and as someone else stated needs to go and mysteriously stub his toe.

Ultimately, that will probably be what we have. It may take to next year before Clemens gets cut. They may also still draft another QB next year if Ratliff or Ainge doesn't work out but I see no future for Clemens at all. Bring in Favre buys then one or two more years to develop the QB of the future. If Clemens was it we wouldn't have Favre now.

I agree. Even if it was just 3rd and 4th stringers, he lit them up with some really nice passes. I think KC is the second coming of Glenn Foley. He just doesn't have "it"
