You might have something there. Dennis Green, Mike Tice, Norv Turner, and Art Shell were not exactly great motivators. I expect Moss to make some kind of contribution before he does something stupid (he might last half the season before he messes up). I recognize the talent. But he has dropped off significantly the past half decade. Look up "The Space Age Receiver" John Jefferson. He burst onto the scene with the Chargers in 1978. He was phenomenal just like Moss in 1998. Jefferson had three tremendous seasons (All-Pro each year) in San Diego before he was traded to Green Bay. He was no longer the great threat anymore, although he did make the Pro Bowl in the strike-shortened 1982 season (oddly, he did not score any TDs that year). He was part of the vaunted Air Coryell passing attack in San Diego. Someone may say, "Well, he went to Green Bay. They didn't pass the ball like the Chargers did." That would be incorrect. The Packers were a big time passing team in 1983. They led the NFC with 4688 passing yards. Jefferson only accounted for 830 of those yards. Maybe Moss can have a career like James Lofton. Lofton was great in Green Bay. Then he went to the L.A. Raiders for two seasons (one was good, one was ehh). Lofton then went to Buffalo. He didn't play much in 1989, but then was a starter for the first three Bills Super Bowl teams. The problem is Lofton was not a nutcase like Moss.
The thing with Moss is even if he were to fall off he would still have twice as much talent as anybody else in the league. Especially if those times he suppossedly ran for Belichick are real. 4.26, 4.28 and 4.31 40s.
The Patriots traded pick #110 to Oakland for Randy Moss. Where did they get pick #110? The Patriots traded the 49ers their 28th pick on day 1 of the 2007 draft for the 49ers' 4th round pick on day 2 (#110 - which was used to acquire Randy Moss from Oakland) and their 1st round pick in 2008. It wasn't even the Patriots' origional 4th round pick.
Riiiight, I read on Pats boards all afternoon yesterday that the Jets' selection of Revis was a 'countermove' to the Pats' earlier WR FA pickups, and yet less than 24 hours after the Jets draft a 1st round corner they Pats run out and trade for Moss. THAT is a countermove, and if you think the Patriots organization isn't watching the Jets very closely as a burgeoning division threat, then you don't grasp what is going on and you need to find a childrens' forum so you can argue about which team has cooler uniforms. We do welcome rival fans that have something to offer. Maybe you could try a little harder, instead of the predictable stuff you're posting right now.
Oh, I didn't know that. Whatever though, point is Moss is on the Patriots. Randy, now that he is on a team that is a Super Bowl caliber team, can play the way he *probably* wanted to all these past seasons in Oakland. We all know what type of player he is, and so going to a team like NE, chances are he may not do so bad.
Randy Moss sought out the Patriots from the start. He and his agent knew that Moss would be traded or released from Oakland so they did what they had to do. They found a team that Moss wanted to play for and would be willing to take a dramatic pay cut from, and that was the Patriots, the only team on his wish list. I really don't feel it was any kid of a 'countermove' against the JETS, or anyone else in the division for that matter. Moss and his agent merely asked, and they were granted their wish. You can't understand what happened until you know all the facts, and now you have them.
I think most of that is a fairytale. Not to say he didn't want to go to the Patriots, he may have. However, he demanded a trade. He wanted out of Oakland period. He said publically weeks ago that he knew he would have to restructure his contract wherever he went. If NE didn't bite he would have gone to GB or wherever else he could to get out of Oakland.
when i woke up this morning i turned the tv on and i see randy moss to the patriots. My jaw dropped and i started to yell wtf so loud my mom came running into my room asking me what was wrong
He's in his prime years. Using Rice as an example, he had his best years in his low 30s Short term memory I guess then. He's missed 4 total games in 3 years, and missed none in 2004 and 2005. And did you feel the same way about Branch? I mean, since Stallworth came into the league the same year and has actually missed less games. My guess is you were happy to see Branch go. Why are you all worked up over our 3rd receiver? Have fun covering him though with Stallworth and Moss out there Anyway... Pats look great on paper, but we'll see what happens on the field. I'm not too worried about Moss. A pretty inexpensive 1 year deal, and if he acts up, he's gone and we'll still have good receivers.
Randy Moss After speaking with some of my friends who are Jets fans...they were acually excited about Moss to the Pats. They believe he will tear that team apart. I like how Bill looks so hypocritical...opinions? I like Moss, but I honestly thnk people are making too much of this...
Too late. We're pre-disastered. When Karma comes calling we gave at the office. Injuries are like water rolling across our collective skin cuz we've lost our QB in the first few games only about a half dozen times including both of our most promising recent seasons (1999, 2003.) You want Karma? Just imagine your life if Brady got knocked out game 1 against the Jets next year. Wham - 14 wins becomes 9 or 10 and no wins in January. As a matter of fact Brady has been remarkably free of injury over the last 6 seasons, too free. I think his number's up. Have fun.
They are going to have one fast set of receivers now. All Brady has to do is throw it as far as he can and someone will grab it. Moss is going to be motivated now, and they only got him for a 4th rounder. That's the steal of the draft.
What made it a steal was he ripped up his contract and signed a 1 yr deal.. If he causes trouble, he's cut, no cap hit. This was something he only offered to the Pats.
1987 was Rice's best season. He was 25 years old. 1989, 1993, 1994, and 1995 were the next best ones. Can you find any other WRs where you can claim their best years came on the other side of 30?
