Sighs, so simple minded. Can you possibly fathom why our pass defense was so terrible last year? It was because Mangini is a conservative idiot. Every analyst last year commented on our lack of pressure, lack of blitzing. The reason that our numbers looked so terrible, is because mangini would get a lead in the first half, and play prevent defense for the rest of the game. The guy was so afraid of losing, that he was afraid of making any "risky" defensive calls, and thus we let offenses pick us apart. There were entire games last year that we didn't blitz once, it was sickening. Our secondary wasn't that bad skill wise, it was our defensive scheme that was terrible. Our secondary did indeed improve with Lito Sheppard. Sheppard is a pro bowl corner, Kerry Rhodes is pro bowl caliber but has gotten robbed the last few years, Darelle Revis is one of the best corners in the NFL and still very young. The only guy "unproven" in our secondary is going to be Jim Leonard, and he didn't play badly at all last season. Bart Scott has played in the shadows of Ray Lewis for too long, and in contradiction to your statement, he's actually one of the better cover ILB's out there, David Harris has that versatility as well. Arguing with you seems to be senseless though since you neither use fact or logic, its like arguing with my wife. Just wait til game-day though, and you will see the transformed defense. The Jets HAD the talent last year, and with the new scheme and a few more good players that we've added, its going to be something genuinely fun to watch
Keep believing that BS. I predicted accurately on this board jets shortcommings on defense last year. Again what makes Calvin Pace and B thomas so effective against the run, makes them liabilities against the pass. Jets tried using Harris alot in pass coverage and hes horrible. Yea bart scott look good in coverage with Baltimore. Only problem with that the opposing Qb not going to be under duress as they were in Baltimore> The more Cb under instant duress, the more likely hes going to make mistake. Going to make Bart Scott look alot better in coverage than he really is. Eric barton wasn't bad in coverage either with the Raiders. Yet he looked like garbage because Jets OLB are a joke getting to the QB. Bengals fans made the same mistake. They bought into Marvin Lewis being this defensive genius . They are still waiting for him to show it now that he didn't have Ozzie Newsome getting him the groceries. I feel really bad for you. Your expecting the moon with Rex Ryan and some Ravens helpers that look alot better because of their core players Ravens had around them. I probably look just as good. Wait till you see what these players look with average talent around them. Just remember where you heard that first.
If it makes you guys feel any better, CBSsportsline ranks Jamarcus "Franchise" Russell just below our very own rookie, Mark Sanchez, and just above rookie, Josh Freeman. Respect.
Wow and alot of People thought Dolphins would win 3 to four games last year. They won the AFC East. So the Mediots can think Sanchez is this can 't miss QB. There is a reason they are journalist and not working in a front office. The guy only started sixteen games and coluldn't beat out Matt Leinart.. Yea hes going to be great.
Because everytime Jets venture to Oakland they come back with a loss. Yet Jet fans keep believing they are the better team. When will they learn.
What you fail to see, is that the Jets lack of pressure last year had very little to do with talent, and a whole lot to do with defensive play-calling. The Jets did VERY well last season when blitzes WERE called, unfortunately that number was only 1-2 times a game on average. There were some games where they literally didn't have any blitz calls. You can't be a dominant defense doing that. The Jets have plenty of talent. Revis, Rhodes, Jenkins, Pace, Scott, Sheppard, Harris... All very talented players. Again, your point about quarterbacks making mistakes under pressure, that's a fact... and it is also Rex Ryan's mentality... you'll see plenty of pressure from the Jets this season.
When will they stop scheduling the cross-country visits? 2-6 in the past 10 years in Oakland, 2 - 0 at home. That includes the early decade when the Raiders were dominant in the AFC. The Jets don't play well on the west coast. I'd say that's much more of a factor than any superiority on the side of the Raiders. You haven't beaten us in NY/NJ since '96, and we were 1-15 that year.
If you're going to make up numbers, you may want to mix in some variation between the weight and IQ. Your weight hasn't matched your IQ since you were 3.
Listen when you have to rely on blitzes and gimmicks to get pressure. Your defense is not that good. Simple teams pick up the blitz and they expose your average secondary big time. case In Point . Jets last time they made the playoffs.(2006) Jets were very sucessful that year using alot of gimmicks on defense. (exotic blitz packages) New England studied those blitzes and pick them up, and exposing Jets defense the fraud they were in the playoffs. MY point when Jets get better pass rushers than Calvin pace and B thomas. They will be a much more stingy defense. Also have a better chance to go alot further in playoffs. Again Vernon Gholston better start justifying why he was drafted. He can''t get to Qb, Jets are in trouble. I don't care who the DC is, its not going to matter.
Every year you sip the Oakland Kool-Aid yet every year they finish 4-12 or 5-11. When will YOU ever learn? I really wonder what you had to say about last year's offseason when you added the brilliant likes of DeAngelo Hall and Javon Walker and extended Tommy Kelly (who???) for a combined 175 million. WOW
Doesn't that apply to everyone but the Lions? And couldn't we say the same for the years you're on the schedule at the Meadowlands? At least we've won in your house in the past decade. Sadly, you can't say the same about ours.
The same thing people were saying Pre 2000 season. Than Raiders win a game in Kansas City. that knocks them out of playoffs to end the season. They use that to springboard them to the team to beat the next three years in AFc. Now lets go back to last year Raiders smoke a hot houston texans team. Than the last game playing on the road in Tampabay with everything on the line for buccs. They come back from 10 points down in fourth quarter, to blow out the Buccanears, and send the eagles to the playoffs. Could history be repeating itself. Yes alot of Raiders moves in Fa were utter disasters last year. They learned their lesson and made alot of prudent decisions in FA(went fdor players in their prime that weren't going to break their bank. We have a team on the verge of being contenders real soon in AFc .
Speaking of justifying draft picks. *cough* Jamarcus Russel *cough* and since when do 3-4 defenses get pressure without blitzing? When the OLB's or anyone besides the D-line goes after the QB in the pocket... we call that a blitz.... I agree with you on Thomas, but not Pace... Pace is a solid athlete. Gholston is going to benefit from Ryan's defense... just as Suggs did.
Note the schedule came out and jets are coming to Oakland week 7. You know what that means- Raiders are already 1-0 for 2009. If you mom had balls she be your father applys. raiders aren't coming to the Meadowlands. So your point is baseless.
