Yea i agree with the silver dude... but lets just all practice patience for once and let it play out.
Welcome aboard silversurfer. Very insightful post. You will also see a few other resident Raider fans on here as well.
Al Davis wants Rob Ryan to stay with the Raiders Translated, it looks like Davis - who always has the final say on the organization's comers and goers - wants Ryan back for a fifth season of wild hair and man-coverage defense. Davis agreed to Kiffin's staff requests when he was hired last year, which meant an entirely new offensive staff and up to $4 million in buyouts. He isn't being so obliging after a 4-12 debut by the 32-year-old first-time coach. Ryan is under contract for one more season and would be owed an estimated $850,000 if fired. The Raiders opted to get Davis' money's worth out of Ryan, whom he liked enough to grant an interview for the head-coaching job last year. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/01/05/SPB3U9GBM.DTL
Several people close to Kiffin said he was in favor of luring away Tampa Bay defensive backs coach Raheem Morris. That presented its own set of problems. One, Morris is under contract with the Buccaneers, and the Buccaneers could have refused the Raiders' overture. Second, Morris is versed in the cover-2 defensive scheme, which flies contrary to the defense used by Ryan and one favored by Davis. This isn't the first time Ryan has kept his job on the heels of seemingly impending change. Davis retained Ryan after Norv Turner and Art Shell were fired in recent seasons. He even gave Ryan a three-year extension before Shell was hired in 2006. http://www.insidebayarea.com/sports/ci_7889711
Continuation of same article: Through it all, Ryan said nine days ago that he wasn't worried about his job status, even though his defense struggled for most of this season. "Who are we kidding?," Ryan said Dec.27. "I'm not worried about it. I love the Raiders. If that happens, so be it. I'd be out of a job for two minutes." Hmmmmm, makes me think that where there's smoke, there's fire. We'll just have to wait and see.
Rex wants to be a HC though....I say we offer himwhatever the Ravems offer him to be HC but make him a DC.
And that will accomplish nothing but the humiliation of being laughed at and turned down by Rex Ryan.
Good post! Although I'm not as anti-Ryan as you are, I agree with what you're saying. The Raiders lead the league in weird press releases. I wouldn't take this one at face value...
ryan can be a jet if he's offered assistant head coach i believe that if you offer a couch a promotion they can leave there team
Nope We've been all over that subject a hundred times already in Raiderland. Rules are that promotion means NOTHING unless it's for Head Coach. Here's what is going to go down in my opinion: We hold onto Ryan until Kiffin is able to land his replacement. IF the team we want our new DC from asks for compensation, then we pass that on to the Jets and see if they will match it (Ex. 4th round pick for DC we get, Jets give us 4th we give it to them, everyones happy) though this is less likely. We have NO REASON to let Ryan walk while we have NOBODY to replace him yet. I'm relatively confident though that IF Ryan signs with another team Al isn't liable for that 850k bill. There is no way we keep Ryan around now that bridges are burned and he KNOWS the HC want's him replaced. What are we going to do, return a bitter DC who would RATHER leave and join his bud in NJ only so he can be a lame duck coach AND stick it to us AFTER NEXT SEASONhmy: What makes me mad though is WHERE IS THE NY MEDIA on this story?? I thought you guys had media out there with some stones. Why are they not jumping on this and getting some ANSWERS It should all get REAL INTERESTING after the yuks game tomorrow:wink:
If the Raiders FIRE Ryan... they are on the hook for 850K. If he takes a job elsewhere, the RAIDERS pay the first 850K....
Oh Yea Like Mike Shanahan got his money, when he left the raiders. Don't worry Shanahan the check is in the mail.
Why would any NFL coach want to work for that whack job??..Al Davis is long gone..He is an NFL Coach career killer. I saw him up close last year at the Riders-Jets game and he is most definitely gonzo. If he dumps Kiffin it will be almost impossible for the Raiders to get a coach.at least anyone decent who is not totally desperate. I swear the NFL is going to have to step in for reasons of insanity.
If Al Davis loves Rob Ryan so much.. he shoulda made him the head coach not Lane Kiffin. Ditto Jerry Jones on the Jason Garrett situation. Just make the guy a head coach if you think he's gonna be that good.
This is just in which is great news for us... CBS' Charley Casserly reports the Raiders have not made a final decision on the status of defensive coordinator Rob Ryan for 2008. Owner Al Davis and coach Lane Kiffin will reportedly meet early this week to discuss Ryan's future. Basically what I am reading is that Kiffin doesn't want to retain Ryan. Basically Al Davis is the only one who wants to keep Ryan for whatever reason.
