one is going against mangold in practice.the other is going against hunter. in the game one isn't facing the best center in the game the other is now facing an nfl caliber rt so you can see where the difference is
It's going to be interesting to see how they report his performance in practice today and going forward. I'll bet they completely change their tune.
I hope they report every time Coples draws a holding penalty. Thats what I really look for in my defensive linemen
those weird brands on his arm are hideous though. Not sure why anybody would voluntarily disfigure themselves to that extent. Just massive chunks of flesh protruding up...I'm waiting for an offensive tackle to just rip them off. Like massice skin tags
I gotta say that this is encouraging to read. I didn't see the game, but was curious how he did. I never expect much from rookies, so anything he does this season is a bonus to me. If he can play strong, and Wilkerson becomes the force I believe he will be, then we could really have something. Harris, Revis, Wilkerson, Couples... This could be a very good defensive core indeed...
So let me get this straight. It is too early to tell whether Coples is a player after only one preseason game where the Bengals had a hard time blocking him, but we can tell after this one meaningless game that the Jets team as a whole is going to have a terrible season even though the starters barely played a quarter and the biggest play was a blocked punt where we don't even know if the regular punt team was on the field. It's good to see this board has not changed.
My thoughts exactly. I thought Coples was very impressive, but let's wait until at least after the preseason to start calling anyone busts or making assumptions about a team that had its starters I'm for one quarter.
Just like I won't overreact about the O I womn't overreact about Coples. Nice start for him, I loved the pick at the time and think he will be a good player for us and nothing that happened Fri woul change that.
The only thing to take away from this is that when the dude is gassed, he was still out there making plays. I liked that alot
I was just reading an article on NFL.com... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...sses-rex-ryan-in-jets-debut?module=HP11_MYNFL Is this really true? Wasn't Coples expected to be taken 12th by the Seahawks? Were Melvin Ingram, Shea McClellin, Chandler Jones, Whitney Mercilus and Nick Perry ALL more "highly-regarded" than Coples? Either way, I hope he can prove all the critics wrong in game 1 against the Bills.
I think it depends on who you talk to. Coples may not be of good of a pass rusher as some of those guys but I think he's probably the most well rounded player. He plays the run better than the pass.
Coples was a top 5 pick going into 2011. He kind of slid down to top 12 or so before the draft. The period in the last couple of weeks before the draft is where many teams make mistakes by moving people to far up their charts and radically changing their plans in the process. Lots of people apparently moved Coples down as other people leap-frogged up the lists. I think the Jets got a bonus when this happened.
Just curious, how did Ingram do in his debut? I heard he had a decent game. Better than Coples'? I doubt it.
