Anybody else think it's coincidence that he was born 1 year after the movie "Friday" came out? Funny being named after a weed movie "villain."
No one has said for sure. I've read the Jets don't gain anything by waiting to give him his full $. I guess that's true, but if J&J can hold on to $5M of Quinnen's money (25%) for another year, that could earn them $500,000 in interest, which goes straight into J$J's rainy day fund. Another thought is that there's always a tiny bit of risk with any rookie deciding the NFL is not for them half way through their first TC and quitting. Happens about once every 4 or 5 years (almost happened with Couples if you ask me). Then the team has to try and wrestle the signing bonus back from the player. I guess it makes a tiny bit of sense to hold onto as much of the signing bonus as possible until the player settles in. Another weird thought is MAYBE Douglas' contract pays him 1% of any cap money he saves! Their might be an incentive for Douglas to field a championship team while spending as little as possible on players (I know there's a floor to what has to be spent). On a side note, signing bonuses are quirky to begin with. I mean a player (take Sam) gets like 70-80% of his first 4 year contract the day he signs as a HUGE signing bonus. And then gets tiny game checks for 4 years. That would scare me if I was an owner. If anyone else has any idea why the JETS try to hold out on paying the signing bonus, speak up!
I'm crossing my fingers that this guy is the Jamal Adams of the d-line. I haven't been this excited about a Jets rookie in a long time.
I obviously hope for the best for this kid. But the pessimist in me just isn't buying it. You can show me all the highlight reels in the world (which is limited for this kid) and show me all the stats, and i can do the same for Wilkerson (gone), Sheldon (gone), Coples (gone) and soon to be Leo Williams.
