Growing up on Long Island, at least in my group of friends, there were no Giants fans. Some Raider fans, lots of Jets fans, a good dollop of Boys fans. I can't recall even watching any Giants games growing up. I only cared about the Jets.

It's the same now. I don't watch any Giants games, I don't read about them in the papers, I just don't care about them.

Unless they're playing the Jets, I root for the Giants. My Father was a Giant fan his whole life and I'd watch the games with him. Living up here in Upstate NY, our main rivals are the Bills and the Pats. Bills fans are always trying to get the Jets taken off local TV in favor of the Bills. So I have alot more hatred for the Bills and the Pats. As long as it doesn't have a negative effect on the Jets, I root for the Giants.

    OP, good inquiry.

I grew up with a father who was a NY fan but leaned toward the Giants. During the late 70's and early 80's I used to watch games with him but found the Giants to be very boring. The Jets seemed more exciting at the time, Sack Exchange, Wesley Walker, etc. I have been a Jets fan since.

When I grew older and became more aware of other people's opinions, I began to despise the Giants and found their fans, especially post 1986 to be arrogant and snobbish. While lots of other teens liked the Steelers, Cowboys, Dolphins, and 49ers, I stuck with the Jets. I never understood rooting for teams from other cities when you were born and bred in NY with two options but that is another thread. I purely hated the Giants through my teens and into my 20's because they tasted success, we didn't.

As I got older, I cared less what other people thought. I still disliked the Giants and still found the team boring during the years they did not win. Handley, Reeves, Dave Brown, Tommy Maddox, the Giants deserved them in my eyes.

As the Jets renewed their rivalries during the years, I began rooting for the Giants to beat teams like the Patriots, Dolphins and especially the Cowboys. You know, help us out since you are from NY. Either you like the Cowboys or hate em, no in between. The pinacle was when the Giants beat the Pats. I "pulled" for the Giants that game since I could never actually "root" for anyone but the Jets.

Now, I respect the Giants. Still am overly critical towards them, still want them to beat our rivals, and still enjoy when they beat Dallas. Nice game last week. Still not big on their fans but isn't that the fun of having two teams in NY?

    Go Jets!

I do NOT hate the Giants, but I am not wearing blue either. I will say this:

    1) I was THRILLED when they beat the Pats to win the Superbowl.

    2) Eli Manning is very easy to root for. The guy is the second-best QB in the NFC, and he is constantly dumped on by sportswriters, local talk hosts, and Giants fans alike. I just don't get it,

the beauty about new york sports is you have options. there are enough teams so that you can pick a team you genuinely like, and you can HATE the others. I do in fact hate the giants. the only non-giants fans in my family is my degenerate uncle who grew up in a giants household, and my father and I. The giants are no different in my hatred for the yankees though I hate the yankees far more because there is no franchise any more arrogant and unappealing to me than the yankees, they make rooting for the giants almost forgivable. But dont get me wrong, the hate is fun. I do love rooting for the "other" team its always been somewhat consistent with my personality thats why i enjoy the options that new york gives you. Ill root for the giants only when theyre playing philadelphia because.....well just fuck philadelphia. if theyre playing the cowgirls its like: I have good news and bad news. Good news is one of these teams will lose, you can guess what the bad news is.
Definitely hate all the bandwagon jumpers as well, thats my only fear of the jets winning a superbowl, it would break my heart to see jet bandwagon jumpers but its inevitable, the houston texans would have bandwagon jumpers if they won.
I also do sincerely find giants football to be extremely boring much like american league baseball. Love the hate, I thrive off it, it makes things fun. Imagine if we lived in cleveland or something like that? Wed all be browns and indians fans. No fun there.

I used to hate them in the Simms/Taylor era but i don't anymore.
I almost cried when they beat the Pats 2 years ago.

Even when Eli makes that face when he misses a pass or makes a bonehead play? Annoying to watch.

the giants dont bother me. i have rooted for them in the past in single games but dont really care about what they do overall. until a giants fan starts being a douche at which point i hope they lose just so i can tell that person they are an asshole.

my mom loved both the jets and giants, i rooted for them when they won their last 3 superbowls. she also watched and liked the patsies and felt bad for them and their poor fanbase until they recently got good and the fanbase turned into a bunch of dickbags. now she cant stand the patsies.
