Head to head in a big spot in Dallas Eli was great and Romo sucked. Schaub has a ton of talent around him and has done nothing but be fragile. Warner is going into the HOF. Brady, Manning, Rothlisberger I will give you. Eli can hold his own with ever other QB in the league until proven otherwise. The run he produced in the playoffs on the road against really fine teams can't be discounted and it's something none of the other QB's you mentioned have come close to doing. Romo and Rivers played on equally good teams and Eli has destroyed Romo head to head in big games on his field. Rodgers isn't under rated he is clearly one of the best young QB's in the league. If Palmer comes back from injury fully he will clearly be in the group. The last few years have upgraded the QB talent dramatically in the NFL. Lots of good ones but only a handful have produced at the highest level in the big games. Eli is one of them. I would suspect Flacco and Ryan will be in that group shortly both of whom I would take over Schaub in a heartbeat.
The Red Bulls do not count. We have the Yanks, Mets, Jets, Giants, Knicks, Nets, Islanders, rangers and Devils. The red Bulls belong way down the list w/ the Liberty as franchises no one cares about.
Sheli had a 86 QB rating last year, which is a bit above average for a QB. He got off to a hot start last year too, let's wait a full season before appointing him a great QB. I ask myself if he was on a team that didn't have the o-line and running game of the Giants, would be be as good? I have to say no, I don't feel like he can carry a team by himself. If you were to put Peyton Manning on a team like Oakland they would probally improve by 5 games. I don't think Eli would make a huge difference on a team by himself. He is servicable but I feel like he's the third best QB taken in that draft. If he has a great season this year and shows me something, I'll have to give him credit despite the fact I can't stand the guy, but right now the jury's still out on him. In fact, I rooted hard for the Giants in the Kerry Collins days. Eli changed that. He'll always be a crybaby who got extremely lucky in his career in my mind.
I don't mind the Giants or their fans. I think it's not even remotely like how the Yankees and Mets fans feel about each other. I root for the Giants when they play and I watch em. NY is NY is NY to me. They're not in the same division or conference, so it really doesn't matter. I never root for them quite like I do my Jets though! Like when they beat Dallas I was like "ah nice. Good job guys." and continued with my life.
See my previous post on Eli's 2008 season. Let me ask you how many QBs truly can carry a team on their own? The answer is few. Even Joe Namath had over 100 yards rushing and a great defensive effort helping him out in SB III. I get that you don't like him, though as I've asserted in other posts can't figure out why people feel that way for the life of me, but I really doubt you can say "the jury is still out on him." This is his sixth year in the league and he's established himself as one of the better QBs in the league at the very least. And dear God, man! Use the enter key! My eyes aren't as young as they used to be!
I thought the Giants were insane for sticking with Eli the first few years. I thought they only had him playing because of his last night, like being an awesome QB was hereditary. I was so wrong. He turned out to be a really solid and good player.
Your comments about Romo and Eli are exactly why numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt in the NFL. Romo appears to have a pretty good career overall, but if you look at his numbers in crunch time you can see why he faces the criticism that he does. I think Eli is a clutch QB who has come thrown with numerous 4th Quarter/OT drives, at times even when the remainder of his game hasn't been all that good.
Eli's biggest proglem is he has that clueless look on his face most of the game and seems to lack intensity or act with a sense urgency and purpose unless the game is on the line. What he has always done is run a good 2 minute drill and play well in pressure spots. I watch him some times and I think he's thinking about walking the dog or getting a sandwich rather than driving the team down the field. He is almost the exact opposite of Sanchez in terms of his mental makeup.
I don't know. Whenever I watch Eli, he looks like he's thinking about eating paste or playing with a pretty yellow Tonka truck.
I disagree a bit. I think they have very similar mental makeups, they both seem like they have short memories and can recover from bad plays. Sanchez is just more of an outgoing personality and he's shows his enthusiasm while eli is more stoic.
Giants fan, I can't quote you because I don't have enough posts but I know I'm not alone in my feelings on Eli. I know a ton of people who think he's a pampered brat. I'm not saying this just because I'm a Jet fan either, as I said I used to like the Jets and Giants about equally(always pulled for the Jets a bit more) but once they drafted this guy it made my decision easier. I don't believe in entitlement.
Trust me, I know you're not alone in your sentiment. Save for one instance, granted it was a pretty big instance, he's been nothing short of a class act. And it's not like he hasn't had a ton of shit to put up with either!
I agree. The fact that he's not very demonstrative is taken as proof that he's either stupid, a pussy, or both. There's no basis to, as his career shows, but people will think what they'll think.
I like the Giants.... I had them in the SuperBowl before most Giant fans.. I remember being in a bar watching that game where Eli threw like 15 Picks and Giant fans were practically hanging themseleves _ every single one of em was done with Eli... I sat there and said I'd take Eli in a heartbeat.... And I went on to point to the schedule and how the Giants had a great shot... And AWAY THEY WENT.... And how could you not root for them Vs the Pats that year _ Best SB ever!!!!!! Funny now to hear guys like Boomer talk about how calm cool and collected Giant fans are Vs Jets fans.. PUHLEASE.... That's one thing that bothers me - What a load of crap - Boomer should have seen them lining up on the bridges weeks before the Super Bowl run looking to Axe Coughlin and Cut Eli..... Sure it's easy to be calm and cool now with a Ring on the finger already and knowing your team is among the best... But, lets not compare at this point - The teams and fans are in different places. But, yeah, I'll root for the G-men, it's not like it's the Mets or the Rivalry in Hockey. The Giants / Yankees and Rangers are the OLD GUARD and the teams with deeper roots in this city. As a Jets / Islander / Yankee fan I respect the Rangers and Giants - It's the panzy ass Met fans that can never show respect and always look to "Take over the City" after they string a few wins together Vs Pittsburgh and the Nats.
You are so full of shit, you spent that entire Super Bowl complaining about how much you hated both teams and that it was the worst day ever. And just for the record, I've basically gotten to the point where I'd almost consider myself a Giants and Jets fan now. Almost. If the Jets losing has any positive effect for the Giants, well, sorry boys. But I grew up watching nearly every Jets game because, I mean, it's football and it's on TV so why the fuck not? Not to mention that, being a Mets fan/Giants fan who came of cognizance in the Dave Brown Era/Rangers fan whose earliest clear memories from '97, I have an affinity for frustrating, agonizing mediocrity and shittiness. Especially after now posting on this board for so long, I'm drawn to the team. And Rex Ryan is awesome, so that helps.
I grew up in a Cowboys house, so Yes, I can't stand you guys. But it's not from that, I just never liked the Giants, and I believe every one of your fans are bandwaggoners; Sorry!
Eli whined to his daddy when he thought the chargers were going to draft him. "Paw, I don't like the chargers, Paw." He reminds me of Opie Taylor. "Paw, I killed the mama bird with my slingshot."
