It made no sense to bring him back this year, it would make even less sense bringing him back next year. I don't know how anyone who watched 16 games played by this year's Jets thinks tying up $12 mil in a CB approaching the wrong end of 30 is a good idea. Let go of it people. He's not coming back. Makes no sense for him or us.
1.) Revis loves Rex, without him it's a tough sell to get him to go from the top of the AFCE to the bottom. 2.) He's under contract, isn't this text-book tampering or am I missing something? 3.) Revis is a lot more valuable to a good-great team than he is to the Jets, 3 or 4 above average players would be more valuable to the Jets than Revis and his potential contract. It makes no sense to bring a future HOF Corner to a team with needs at CB, OL, LB, S, WR, TE, and QB. A pair of 8m/yr talent level CBs for example will be a better sign for them than Revis at 12-16 simply because of too many needs. Might be the best player at his position but top tier CB value is more of a "missing-piece" luxury than a building block.
If Revis leaves the Patriots he should go wherever Rex Ryan is coaching that's where he'll have the most individual success. And if he does leave and Rex isn't coaching I still don't think he'll come here. I don't see him leaving the #1 team in the AFC to join one of the worst in the same conference. Not to mention he's towards the end of his career and still doesn't have a ring. I would take him back sure but we'd have to spend more money than other teams and I don't see Woody doing it.
Personally I don't care one way or another. Just mentioned it as a point to ponder. And no I haven't seen Flowers play but I saw too much of Walls and other failures at CB. Is he better or worse than any of them??
He's a retired bum. Revis is still the best CB in football and probably going to win our arch-rival a SB when he would've came to our circus show for the same price.
You guys realize that Woody's statement is considered against the leagues tampering rules right? His comment was something like "love to have Darrelle come back to the Jets." The league's tampering rules prohibit these sorts of statements. Public/Private Statements Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of this AntiTampering Policy. (Example of a prohibited comment: “He’s an excellent player, and we’d very much like to have him if he were available, but another club holds his rights.”) All clubs should be aware that improper disclosure of confidential trade discussions with another club may be a violation of this section on prohibited public statements.
This is exactly the situation. Also, we need to be careful about Mo and Snacks. Hopefully we limit Rex, if he gets a HC position, to scooping up guys like Harris, Ellis or Pace.
Revis is back to playing at the same level pre injury..The dominance of the Pats secondary and no injuries to Gronk is why the Pats are clear cut favorites in the AFC. Revis reached out to our camp fist when he was released from the Buccaneers. Braylon Edward is a retired bum..not even any speculation there.
Brandon Flowers' +35.5 PFF coverage grade in the last 5 seasons is the 5th-highest of any CB. He was a 2013 pro bowler, though he didn't make the pro bowl this year. To be honest I haven't watched him as closely this year as I would have liked but he is a free agent.
Our red zone defense was atrocious this year --- 25th in the league. That sounds like a major factor for going 4-12 and you'd think Revis would help fix that. The Pats RZD was 7th in the league. The funny thing is, we were also 25th in the league in 2010 with Revis and we went 11-5. In 2009 with Revis we were 4th in the league. In fact, in Rex's 6 years we've jumped all over the place between 4th to 16th to 25th with and without Revis. I really don't know what to make of this, except to think that something seemingly important as allowing TD's in the red Zone is pretty arbitrary from year to year, no matter who you have in the secondary. I'm starting to think the whole damn sport comes down to big plays in the passing game and turnovers, and everything else hardly matters.
