The reason he dropped is the Miami Dolphins were being run by complete fools. Which is just one of the reasons that whole regime lasted one year.

He's actually our quarterback of the future. It's more deception on the part of the FO. Keep him on the practice squad, don't give him much time, then BAM! Third year and he's lighting up our defense that is shutting down our other two QBs. Any doubt in your mind? There shouldn't be. Brett Ratliff may not be the next Namath, but he's definitely going to be the next Joe Namath.

What are the chances that Erik Ainge will pan out?

I can't help but feel that you're either making fun of me or really, really drunk.

All I'm saying is that I see this guy's name on every TC report and it's always good (save for Sunday's interception). According to all of the beat writers, he throws hard and accurate and has great judgement, granted he's playing against the third string defense most of the time but Mangini has been giving him first team reps (see Boland's report for Sunday) and he has been doing well. I think he and Clowney are going to be the TC suprises of this year.

I can't see Ratliff having any chance at all. They have already spent two picks on QBs in three drafts. Maybe they can cut one of them but not two and how many QBs do you think they are going to carry?

Ainge was a 5th round pick, if he doesn't work out - boo-the-fuck-hoo.

Bill Walsh drafted a QB every year when he was coaching. I like that philosophy. You keep looking until you find the right one. Just don't forget to build a team around them as well.

Ainge still has an injured finger, isn't getting many reps in practice, and isn't exactly impressing anyone with the reps he is getting. Compare that to someone who is healthy, on target, getting praised in press conferences, and earning first team reps. Based on everything that you've read so far, what makes you think that Ratliff doesn't earn a spot on this roster. Ainge is a developmental project that seems to be bound for the practice squad as things stand right now. I'm not saying that the situation cannot or will not change but as it stands Ratliff is miles ahead in terms of skills on the field. Memorizing the press names in the media guide will only get you so far.

ESPN did a thing on Brett Ratliff last night due to the Favre talk. The kid got on ESPN. I'm tellin ya, the guy I've been rooting for all along is the answer.

Brady Quinn would be my 1st choice. He 's worth a 1st rounder now but only a second next year if Anderson has another good year.

Chris Simms would be worth a 4th round pick to bring in. I think he is a better option than what we have right now.

If we have to go with the QBs we currently have, I would start Erik Ainge. Yes he has a lot too learn and no experience, but he has more upside than Chad and with what we have seen from Kellen, he will be gone when his contract is up. Erik could be the silver lining in this mess.

Kellen was just another second round QB bust for the Jets. If you can't win the starting job in your 3rd year and the only competition is noodle-arm, your time is running out.

With Chad or Kellen we won't put 150 points on the board this year.

    Ratliff=Namath

I had a good laugh at the Namath one. Joe Namath was the best quarterback we ever had. Then probably Testeverde, then O'Brien.

Do you really believe what you write?

Quinn is unknown at this point, I wouldn't mind having him on the roster, but he has proven nothing, and was passed up by quite a few teams including ours.

Simms has a hole in his gut that won't ever go away, never really took the reigns in Tampa before he lost his spleen, and there is very little reason to believe he ever will for any team again.

Ainge is a currently injured, low-round rookie project QB...hardly starting material at this point.

...and you're basing your Clemens' "bust" label on half a season of second year starting...unbelievable...does the name "Eli Manning" ring a bell?

I totally agree with this post. Everybody who has already decided that Clemens is a bust is being way too impatient in grading an NFL quarterback. As recently as halfway through last season, Eli Manning appeared to be a bust (after being a starting quarterback for a few years already). It is almost unheard of for a quarterback to come in and perform exceptionally well within his first few starts. It's just too soon to judge Clemens.

It is too soon to judge Clemens, but its the everyday bonehead interceptions that are making it hard to root for him anymore.

Hopefully it turns around for his and the teams sake, but if he can't do it - its time to move on.

nice to see you can actually add something to the thread, and since only you watch football, you should be able to provide a list of unknown qbs that nobody but you would know of, right? didnt think so..... dick!

I would say O'Brien was definitely better than Testeverde. Vinny had one great year (98) and a few very mediocre ones. Jet fans totally fell in love with him after 98, and to a certain extent, always cut him an amazing amount of slack in future years. (In my opinion, his 5 interception performance in Baltimore to end the 2000 season, should have been the last game he ever started at quarterback for the New York Jets) O'Brien has a much better body of work as a Jets starter.
