Nice try Nostradamus, in predicting a guy who led a pisspoor team to the division title and a playoff win in his first string of starts will never start again. To think about if he will start in the NFL again look at your life, just because you don't want something to happen, doesn't mean it won't happen.

I guess someone forgot to tell that to the likes of Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw, Dan Marino, Joe Namath, Phil Simms, Dan Fouts and John Elway, among others. None of those guys had a career completion % above 60%. Dan Marino, considered by many to be the best NFL QB never to have won a Super Bowl, had only 5 seasons of 60%+ in his 17 year career. John Elway, considered by many to be the best NFL QB ever, had only 3 seasons of 60%+ in his 16 year career. And don't give me the "it was a different era BS". Joe Montana and Steve Young were both contemporaries of John Elway, and their career completion % numbers were 63% and 64%, respectively, a full 6-7% higher than Elway. Brett Favre was a contemporary of Elway for the 2nd half of Elway's career, and Favre had more 60%+ seasons in his first 4 years in the NFL than Elway had in his entire 16 year career! John Elway had a sub-60% completion percentage in all 5 Super Bowl appearance seasons.

Now how do you explain that, exactly? Is it possible that completion % is only one piece of the puzzle for a successful NFL QB, important but not the be-all and end-all statistic that Fantasy Football players make it out to be?

completion% historically has one of the lowest correlations to winning, adjusted net yds/attempt is a better measure

And which one of those QBs played in this pass happy era? Compare any QB's stats from now to back then and they will look great. It's a different game now.

Doesn't matter. The point that he was addressing was the rather stupid claim by Cval that a QB has to have a comp % close to 60%.

Now, if you want the longer explanation, WCO QBs who dink and dunk for the most part really do need higher comp %'s. QB's in "chunk" offenses don't.

Simple example to illustrate. 1st and 10, Sanchez throws for 4 yards. 2nd and 10, Sanchez throws for 4 more yards. 3rd and 10, Sanchez throws incomplete, Jets punt.

here, Sanchez was 2-3 for 8 yards and he went three and out.

Tebow comes in. 1st and 10, he throws for 8 yards. 2nd and 2, incomplete. 3rd and 2, he runs the ball for a first down.

Tebow is 1-2 for 8 yards. Sanchez has the higher comp %, and Tebow's is lower, yet Tebow was more effective, gaining a new set of downs and extending the drive.

    LOL clueless clueless people.

A running Qb has NEVER I will say it again NEVER won a superbowl
Was somebody actually comparing compl % from quarterbacks from the 70's and 80's.

Compl % in today's NFL needs to be around 60% if you want to keep your job as a starter. You can not believe it you can manipulate numbers you cna put your head in the sand but the fact does not change.

A sub 50% passer gets cut or demoted what happened to Tebow again?

Running Qbs are not Unique in football the spread offensive has been around almost as long as football itself. Very little is new it is just recycled.

Running Qbs that are runners first passers second dont last in this league. Cam was praised for his passing last season not his running. If he showed he could not pass he would have the same criticism as Tebow.

Hey, you can live in your college fantasy world that you can survive in the league as a run first QB but history has proven me right over and over and over again.

Why are you here? lol. You have Peyton Manning now. Let Tebow go, it's over with him and Denver.

I think completion % is overrated. Wins are the ultimate stat. I don't care if a guy throws three 100 yd touchdowns for 300 yds, but goes 3-10 in passing attempts. It's about points, yards, and time of possession, not comp %.

No dumbass the rules have changed why is that so hard to understand. We had a couple 5,000 yds passers last season for the love of Tebow.

I like to have fun bursting your guys bubble about Tebow but the sheer lack of football intelligence at times is just amazing.

That ball was 50 yards over the receivers head but what a pretty spiral he is getting better. That was an assessment of an NFL QB not a peewee football QB but an NFL QB are kidding me.

Ok here is a tough question why don't running Qbs last in the NFL? I will give you a couple hints it is not because it is not effective that has been proven wrong over the years running Qbs can make plays.

Both Tebow and me have a head, two arms, a torso and two legs. And neither of us can play QB in the NFL. Dispute that?! :eek:hmy::up:

Here we go again your vast football knowledge bearing itself once again. My guess if Tebow through for 65% it would be the most important stat.

Yes wins are important but a QB is only a piece of the puzzle in winning and Tebow has not proven he can win on a consistent basis in the NFL. He has shown he can lead a game winning drive and come through in the clutch. He has not proven he can win. In fact I think he proven the exact opposite that he cannot win in the NFL.

The Ravens dumped Dilfer after winning a superbowl and Tebow has not won a superbowl so there is more to good QB play than just wins.

Wait... wuuuut? How do those sentences not contradict each other? How do you prove you can lead a game winning drive and come through in the clutch, but not that you can win? Huh?

First off, I never claimed to have vast football knowledge, though I understand the game and watch a lot of football. I have no clue what you are arguing with me about. At no point did I say that comp % is the most important stat, in fact I said it is overrated. At no point did I say that the QB is not a piece of the puzzle. I did say that wins are the ultimate stat (for a team) and I stand behind that. You play to win the game, no?

Tebow has proven that he can't win in the NFL?

He is was what, 8-5 as a starter last year? Does that not amount to a winning record?

I started this thread, I am also a HUGE Tebow fan and have said the following over and over and over (on these boards).

Sanchez is a better QB than Tebow
Sanchez will rise up to the occassion this year and not let Tebow affect him.
Sanchez plays lights out under the pressure of having Tebow backing him up because he played lights out under the pressure of the post season, 4-2 road record with 9 TDs and 3 INTs

I can not be any clearer.

This is a perfect example of someone "imagining " that Tebow fans give Sanchez no credit...a perfect example.

I have also said that BOTh Sanchez and Tebow have sucked hard in Tony Moron's vanilla special offense.

I know you are saying the right things, and that is what you believe, but I just don't know if I can co-sign that, bro. I don't want it to happen, but I think Sanchez will struggle under the pressure. It's one thing to have game pressure, it's another thing to have Tebowmania (not a good thing) on your back with every game, every possession, every down. I hope it works out and Sanchez/Tebow become like Leak/Tebow. I just don't see it happening because unlike Leak, Sanchez isn't a graduating senior who knows he is leaving. He's fighting for his job.

I don't think Sanchez is better than Tebow overall, either. I think he is a better short yardage passer, and is more consistent throwing the ball.

That is fine that you do not co sign it its an opinion. I think where Tebow really over takes Sanchez by miles is in the leadership department but Sanchez has proven he can win in big games at a high level, you can not take that away from him.
As far as I can see , I have never seen sanchez act looser and more relax off the field . He does not feel any pressure from teebs, he doesn't

I understand what you are saying about Tebowmania, but I'm getting a completely different vibe from Sanchez and Tebow. To me, it seems much more like a college competitive rivalry. Where both guys push each other and BOTH get better and perform well.

Another thing is that I don't think Sanchez is on that short of a leash, and I'm sure that he knows it. He'll try not to throw picks, not because he's worried about Tebow, but because he knows that how costly they are in terms of trying to win.

As for who is the better qb/passer, right now, that would be Sanchez. Understandable as he has 40 or so more games under his belt, and Tebow still has much to learn.
