Yeah but Matt Moore is a dead end and you know it. Hating Mark Sanchez so much that you would take anybody over him right now makes you an SOJF.
Yes but if he doesn't have the skills to play at a high level what is the point of replacing Sanchez with him? To postpone the real work the Jets need to do on offense? To feel better about the mediocre QB the Jets have leading the offense? To get some kind of cap relief moving forward when there's no question the next good QB the Jets have will just suck it all back up again? There's just no point at all in putting in a mediocre stopgap player at QB unless the plan is to move on from him as fast as possible. Given the Jets marketing practices that won't be the plan. If the alternatives are to play Sanchez next year or play a Matt Moore then as fans we are just humped at this point.
Trade for Kirk Cousins? It's pretty clear after the last two weeks that Cousins has the makings of a good to great QB in this league with someone other than Washington. He signed a 4 year, $2.5 million deal with the Skins so the price is right. How much would the Jets have to give up to get him in a trade this offseason? Thoughts?
I don't see what the skins would want for him. Obviously, he's locked into a low paying contract with them for a few years. If they traded him away at this point, they could trade him at a higher price than his potential worth- a la Matt Flynn, given that we've only seen 2 of his games against pretty shitty defenses. I wouldn't want to give away more than a 2nd rounder for him, if we intend to make him a starter.
Well he was a third round pick, he has shown some flashes, and RGIII has some injury potential, so they clearly (and did) want to invest in a strong back up player. I would think it would cost us something like a 2nd rounder and swapping of a late round pick. at the least.
I would not give them anything close to a second round pick for Kirk. He hasn't shown enough. Much rather take our own QB in the 3rd or 4th and give Greg a shot.
I like what I've seen out of Cousins, but it's way too early to say he could be a franchise QB anywhere. Shanahan is great at adapting playcalling to suit the strengths of the QB and making in-game adjustments. You saw a lot of bootlegs and rollouts when the conventional dropbacks weren't working. The Jets, on the other hand, run one of the most vanilla, unimaginative offenses in the NFL. If the Redskins used a 4th rounder on him and he is playing above expectations, you'd think they'd demand at least a 3rd rounder in return.
Why would the skins trade him? He was drafted as a safty measure for RG3 and is doing that wonderfully right now. Every draft pundit based the hell out of Shanahan from pick Cousins. That pick now looks like a genius move. If they trade him, it will be with one Year left on the current deal so they get value in return for him. With RG3 already showing to be a bit injury prone in the NFL it would be sensless to trade an inexpensive and effective backup.
It amazes me how we suck and now Shanahan is great, the same Mike Shanahan that was on the verge of being fired, the saem one that has led his teams to 1 playoff since 1999 but I guess that beats 4 playoff wins in the last 3 years.
Matt Schaub got 2 2nd round picks in return with very limited NFL experince. Kevin Kolb got Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a 2nd on very limited NFL game experince. Do you really think at this point the Redskins would let cousins go for anything less than multiple 2nd round picks? If we had him on our Roster would you trade him for a third?
@SigmundBloom: As I said yesterday though, I do believe ARI NYJ JAX KC BUF among others have to have internal discussion about Cousins and approach WAS
No offense, your posting taht someone said "I do believe ARI NYJ JAX KC BUF among others have to have internal discussion about Cousins and approach WAS" as if this is news. He is not saying a source told him these teams have had discussions. He is simply stating the obvious fact that teasm with bad QB's should look into him.
I'll bet Shanahan could make Sanchez look a lot better than he does with the Jets too. It's a huge benefit to a QB to have an offensive minded head coach.
Its not just that he is offensive minded, but that he does so with the intent of protecting his QB. He gets them moving to avoid the rush. Rolling the QB out of the pocket or Moving the pocket to keep the defensive front guessing. Fronts that have to defend against this can not just pin thier ears back and go at the snap. They msut maintain thier rush lanes or risk letting the QB get outside and make plays. We do none of this and it makes our offense all the more predictable.
Why don't we just trade for all the backup QBs in the league and maybe we will find a starter. I'm sure a competition between Cassel, Tebow, Kolb, and Cousins would be great. We can throw David Carr and Matt Moore in the mix as well. Fans of this team are unreal. Do you really want to send 2 2nd rounders out for another Matt Cassel or Kevin Kolb experience? /facepalm
Shanahan has REBUILT a terrible team into one of the hottest teams in football and an up and coming program that might end up winning the SB in the coming years. Rex has taken a good football team and has made them bad. They are severely declining and have a long road to recovery. If the Jets were in the NFC East and not the AFC East, they'd be 3-10 right now. Not 8-6 and winners of 5 in a row...
