No. He takes away 1 receiver. He doesn't cover the field. Revis plays man-to-man defense, so he covers one receiver. That's it. Take your pick - he covers Hill or Kerley or Edwards or Holmes (if healthy). He can't cover two men. He is as good a CB as I have seen, but he still covers one man. That's why he didn't matter in big spots against teams with 3-4 receivers (Indy in 09, for example). And that is why he didn't matter against the Pats - a team that doesn't throw to WRs. And that is why is overpaid by about $6-7 million a year.
Getting prepared for opening day is so overrated and is given such disproportionate importance by fans it is ridiculous. Training camp - and the entire offseason - is designed to get ready for the SEASON, which the last time I checked went on for 16 more weeks AFTER opening day. The Jets need to decide on a QB for the SEASON and not for TB. The Jets actually may need to use this season to determine who the QB will for seasons to come. Those who place so much importance on opening day have short memories of last year when the Jets, the offense, and Sanchez looked lights out on opening day and that ended up being the high point of the season.
We have no receivers to really shutdown, so when they switch between man and zone he will cover 40% of the field, setting Muck up
The Bucs did not pick up Revis and pay him QB money to play zone. You are overestimating his abilities. He cannot humanly cover 40% of a football field. Please stop this ridiculousness.
im not sure why so many are ready to throw geno into the fire. this season is a lost cause whether sanchez, geno, mcelroy, or fuckin joe montana is quarterbacking us so why rush the rookie into a bad situation?
respectfully disagree we are already paying him regardless. He is a reasonable backup level qb who may be able to pull out a 2-2 type of record if he was needed for a month
