...and a bit more speed to boot. One can really hope. Waht a great day for the kid yesterday. (and for my fantasy team. I won by a Keller!)
In regards to Gholston... I'd like to throw a name out there... Calvin Pace... how many people (including myself) had a major WTF? moment when we signed Pace to as much money as we did. He SUCKED up until last year in Arizona... total bust... now look at him... Need another example? James Farrior.
Woody was actually walking around the tailgate, and not in the VIP section either, he came up to ours in 17A and was BSing about how dominant Kris Jenkins is. Pretty cool to see the owner out there throwing a football around at the tailgate. Although he did migrate out of there pretty quickly when people started tossing around the three letter "P" word. Anyone else bump into Woody J?
That was the one thing that escaped my Christmas Wish List too. After we took Gholston, Flacco moved up so far in the 1st Round that is was impossible. We made up for it with Keller though. The thing is, it should be no secret that Favre is not going to be around for very long. And I just don't see Clemens as the answer after he's gone.
Instead of the Ghost (who I admit did want) we coulda traded back to get Flacco. I was hoping Mcfadden or Ryan would fall. Matt Ryan is getting better and better each week and Mcfadden woulda gave us another weapon.
I was disappointed Clemens didn't get more passing plays. He needs that in real game situations. Yesterday may have been the only time this season where you could have had him in there for most of the quarter and let him actually LEAD the offense, not just kill the clock with handoffs. I would have run him with the 1st or 2nd team (or mixed parts thereof) and give him the regular plays you would give Favre to move the chains. What's the worst that happens? He throws a couple of INTs? We had a 7 touchdown lead on them.
It would have been nice, but I wonder if the CS is losing faith in him. On the other hand, the clock stops with an incompletion, They just wanted to end the game.
Granted. It was give Clemens the time or get everybody off the field. I guess they felt the rest was more important. Still, a lot of the 1st team was still in ther longer than I wanted. I hated seeing Leon being hammered around, but he did kill the clock. At one point, he actually looked like he was trying to run around in circles.
I don't mean just having backups in, I mean we shortened the game, kept the defense off the field and the receivers out of harms way. I think that was absolutely more important than Clemens passing some balls against a shitty secondary in garbage time.
Yea...otherwise I'd be bitching more. I really wanted to see what Clemens could do yesterday, but it's 100% logical and understandable to see why he didn't attempt a pass.
It's also coaching protocall, unless jackass Belichick is involved. Usually you just run the ball late when you're up by that much. When the Jets won the 62-28 game in 1985 over Tampa Bay they did the same thing, Pat Ryan was in the game and it was 13 or 14 handoffs resulting in a TD drive of 11 or 12 minutes. There was more time left in that one so they couldn't take the knee to end it.
I'm just glad we got out of there with no injuries. The whole game was a great tune-up and confidence-builder for Thursday night. A lot of guys got touches and points (offense and defense). Even Feely made all his attempts. That's got to help him mentally, going into Foxboro. Can't wait for Thursday night!
Yes, you always use the #6 pick in the draft on a project player. Sounds like a solid plan to me.
Johnson may be the one who opened up his wallet, and it's fair to ask how much that was motivated by wanting to sell PSL's, but the credit absolutely goes to Tannenbaum and the rest of the FO for making the right offseason moves with the money they were given. Spending a lot does not equal success necessarily, but Tannenbaum and his staff are geniuses who have been making the right moves and they deserve credit. Kris Jenkins for a 3rd and a 5th is a steal. And that's just the beginning.
I do believe Brick was somewhat of a project player. He's turned out kind of awesome. Most scouts said he wasn't going to be dominant right away.
