In fairness, he took the premise for that piece straight from the New York Times. I solve that problem by just not reading the Times. Apparently, I'm one of many leading to that paper's financial woes.

You like to write fiction Kurt. Mangina blew the whistle. They didn't ask for the Pats to stop and quietly hand over the tapes, they informed league security, who confiscated the tapes. Hey, they did what they felt was best for themselves, and that's fine. But you can bet that other organizations are gonna take a long look at what he did and have 2nd thoughts about trusting him.

Mangina made his name as a coach with the Pats, which links him to the practice already.

And PFT was only echoing what the article in the NY Times said in the first place.

BTW, Florio has been very critical of the Pats throughout this.

Kurt likes to write fiction? Thats a good one, because he's one of the most balenced posters around here.

His assesment is bang on but thats not good enough for you. You need to make childish remarks toward him and Mangini proving only that your for the most part worthless to read.

    Don't be a crybaby!

I've been as critical of Jets' management as anyone on this board. And if I was a typical NFL guy, and a Jets outsider? I would totally agree with the assessment that the Jets have been making panic moves and that Mangini and Tannenbaum are on a very short leash. Hey! This is what I've been saying ALL ALONG!

For crying out loud, I would think & hope that Mangini and Tannenbaum are close to the firing line. If this Jets team finishes 4-12 again, they should be shown the damn door, and I think most Jets fans would agree with me.

On the other hand? I have been very encouraged by the reports out of Jets' summer camp. Mangini is no longer flogging the players like government mules, there's an open competition for the QB spot, and the Jets are willin to make any move it might take to improve the team (Favre, but at the right price--NOT a #1 draft choice, but since he doesn't wanna play in NYC SCREW the crybaby!)

I check out profootballtalk.com all the time for rumors and news, they'e often on the money. The NFL establishment hates them because they often get the facts before anyone else.

So don't be like Bret! Don't be a crybaby!!!

If you think his post was "bang on" good for you. Don't let the facts get in the way. The Jets contacted NFL security about the guy taping from the sideline. Hey, it was their right to do so. But the idea that it's been reported even once, much less in multiple articles that they quietly went to the guy first and he refused to stop is complete fiction.

The other comments I posted were from PFT and the NY Times.........

I think the Jets Method of operation, just like the Pats all along was to make wise moves after clearing cap - Of course when a new coach comes in you don't spend right away - You see what you have already and let them play..... But, when you see pieces that fit, you go out and get it in year 2 most likely year 3+....

I think the media made up the whole thing about the Pats not spending and then the Jets following that plan.. But, overall it's just 2 teams looking to build a franchise and sign guys that fit......

Desperation??? Who in the NFL is Not?

Coaches have a 3-5 year window.....

I think Mangini has a solid 5 year window - Woody likes what they are building here and WANTS continuity....This year is NOT going to make or break him, at worst, if the team completely blew it without many injuries - the reason will be due to Bad QB play - In which case Woody will know they need a QB... The HC might be on "probation" - They will sign or draft another QB and THEN is they blow he could get fired...

I'D GUARANTEE that there's no way in hell Mangini gets fired after this year, it would take 0-16 and a players revolt...

At the end of last year the players said the right things - Woody said the right things - everyone is on the same page...

This isn't Herm Edwards and Terry Bradway working part time changing systems on the fly and grasping at straws.... THAT is desperation to me when you install systems and then need to change your offense AND defense within 3 years.

    As for Spygate - Whatever....

I don't get this whole 'Jets guy' thing. Goodell was an intern for the Jets for 1 season in the 80s. That translates to undying allegiance?

    Ummm, NO.

I'm about 1,000 times happier with what these guys are doing and their plan over the BS Herm and co gave us.... Herm was decent in building a barely competitive team that could squeek into the playoffs at times...

I think these guys are looking at a much bigger goal and plan.

No way in hell Mangini is fired after this year - for the right odds, I'd bet my house.

Good post...and I think an acurate picture of the direction the Jets are headed in and the true definition of desperation.

Blow it out your ass. 'They' are Mike Florio from PFW, and if he was breaking legitimate scoops with factual evidence instead of tons of 'anonymous sources' he'd being breaking it for PFW because they'd pay out much more than he'd make on his side project.

However, I got a chuckle out of this part:

"And if I was a typical NFL guy, and a Jets outsider?"

    Well played.

Whatever the actual facts are, the Patriots are widely acknowledged by other NFL teams as having violated the rules with their signal stealing, videotaping practices. Some staffs looked upon it as part of the game while many others found it to be wholly unacceptable. The same allegations had already been made against the Pats on numerous occasions by other NFL teams but New England denied them and as their was no material evidence in those cases, the matter was dropped. Whether or not Mangini tried to have the taping stopped and the content turned over prior to notifying league security will have no meaningful impact whatsoever, on his credibility or how trustworthy he appears to other potential NFL employers.

Any suggestion that it might is completely baseless unless, of course, one lends a modicum of import to the unfounded opinions of the fundamentally uninformed.
