Why is everyone overlooking Case Keenum? This kid is deadly accurate and has no running game either. He's listed at 6'2 but I can live with that height when your that accurate and have good arm strength and other intangibles.
I'm not overlooking him...just not a fan. Honestly, I just can't name the last system QB that has panned out is what it comes down to.
No QB impresses me besides maybe Foles when we will pick. Sign Jason Campbell to a 1 or 2 year deal as the backup. He won't wow you but he plays a smart, game managing friendly game.
Everybody is bitching about Sanchez not throwing the deep ball, you do realize Campbell fucking never throws the deep ball which is why his ass is benched right now/will be cut for turnover machine Palmer.
Benched? He got himself hurt and that's how he lost his job in Oakland. He played very well this year before his injury, including making some quality throws vs NYJ. Palmer and Hue Jackson were boys and the amount given for Palmer meant Campbell was never getting his job back.
Campbell was back and healthy by like week 14 I think(not 100%), either way people are tired of our dink/dunk offense and this man is not the solution for our problems, I doubt he even starts for any team next year.
I don't think Campbell is really being considered "the answer" to our QB problems but perhaps he can light a fire under Sanchez's ass and also be a viable backup as opposed to AARP member Burnell. Also the dink/dunk offense wins when you have an elite running game.
I agree 100% We can win with a mediocre or average QB (Sanchez or Campbell) if we approve our O-line and get a good RB to man the backfield with Greene. I think this is a realistic solution that can be addressed ASAP.
I agree, I made a thread about our terrible running game this season being the problem with our 8-8 record. We need a gamebreaker at running back if we want to be a ground and pound team.
That 6'2 is what I'm going to call generous. He's fantastic in that system and worth a later pick if he measures at 6'1, but I really don't think it can translate. His arm is disguised by the offense, so we won't really know what he's got until he goes to the workouts where everything's even.
What about Brandon Weeden? We could probably grab him in the 3rd or 4th round and he's got good size, accuracy, and from what I've been reading he studies film. I get the whole age thing(he's 28) and the fact that he's coming from a Spread offense, but if we drafted this guy and put him in our back-pocket for a year or two he might turn into something. He's got many of the intangibles it would seem. What do you guys think about him?
We're one of the few teams that are in a position to take him. We've largely got a complete team minus a few holes (line depth, safety, another linebacker, and WR) and with a question mark at QB we could piece together a team for this guy to step into if Sanchez fails after this year. The guy would be a top-10 pick easy if he were 22 or 23 years old. I think it's worth a shot.
I'm not behind the idea of drafting a QB. This team sorely needs depth at a variety of positions. I think it would be a waste to draft a backup in any round -- they just did that last year. I do, however, like the idea of bringing in a capable, veteran to backup Sanchez. A guy like Campbell, Garrard, Stanton, McNabb or Feeley. None of these guys are the answer to any long term desires, but I'm pretty sure the FO is all-in with Sanchez at this point.
What does this do, though? We just missed the playoffs with Sanchez, and there are plenty of fans that think Sanchez is somewhere between okay and terrible (myself included). By bringing in a guy that 99% of us will admit is WORSE than Sanchez as the backup, I don't understand what it really does for us. I would think we would just still miss the playoffs and have someone that can maybe compete on the field a bit, but that's it. Why not bring in more of an unknown? I just don't see this team as that good with Sanchez, and bringing in an okay backup doesn't do anything but save face a bit if Sanchez does go down.
Exactly! 1) We need to draft at other positions 2) It's not like a mid round rookie can come in and solve all our problems. Let's bring in a vet QB via FA and leave the draft to other positions.
I would only be okay with this if we've addressed OL, Safety, WR, and OLB... But still, idk what this pick would do, because there's no way that he takes the starting position away from Sanchez.
Not next year, but what about in 2 years? Say Sanchez keeps playing at his mediocre level. Ok, so we ride out his contract, strengthen the rest of the team and groom Weeden to take over if Sanchez doesn't pan out. Way I see it we either: A) Groom a solid backup B) Groom a potential starter for a very low price (a 4th round pick) Even if Weeden didn't start until hes 30, that's not THAT old. We could still get 6-7 years production out of the guy, which if we build a team around him is a window to win something. Obviously this is all hypothetical, but Weeden has the skill-set to turn into a solid starter, its just his age that drops his value.
