When I say homer, I mean someone who discounts reality when they assess what is going on with the team. Discounting reality is not supporting the team. It is living in a fantasy world where everything the team does, everything that those who presently are on the payroll say and do, is great great great just because they said and did those things. Even when the team has just suffered through a 6-10 season. Surely this meaning of the term is not news to you. In any event, I can hope all I want that things go great with the Jets, but that doesn't affect my assessments of what is in fact going on. I call that an acceptance of the truth, and living in the world as it is.
Maybe people realized that having their heads up their asses was boring or stifling. You could benefit from such an awakening.
It's not all doom & gloom. The Jets have been in much worse spots over the last few decades & have climbed themselves out of it. I would much rather see a bunch of "homers" talking about the tangible things this franchise can build off of instead of portraying this viscious circle of negativity that knows no bounds & is absolute.
With the new GM in place, can anyone post up the NFL calendar from now until the draft... When does FA start? Is that the same day that the Jets can waive players or can that start earlier
The fact there hasn't been at least 100 Cimini tweets, or Mehta tweets or La Canfora tweets would make me pretty sure there has been no decision made yet.
why are we still debating Sundquist It was down to Idzik or Khan and from all reports, Idzik is the winner
Many people on this board specifically stating Woody is a joke owner for 'allowing Rex to choose the GM'. They were overreacting to what they read in press, based off Woody's comment in the conference. It was nothing to overreact to. Your last sentence i've read several times and still don't understand what you meant. Have you any proof that candidates bailed or didn't apply due to the 'circus'?
I love how you dismissed my term of 'darksider' while writing an essay on your term 'homer'. lol Both terms do apply to some around here. I used to consider myself a pessimist in regards to this team, but there are so many sky is falling negative posters on this board, that i realize i am no where near their level. There are also others on this board way too optimistic, and are in denial that any change was needed at all. Outside of this recent extremism, i do think most intelligent posters on this board are somewhere in the middle, maybe with a slight tendency either way.
Never said he was the GM when they won their Super bowls and I meant 5 consecutive winning seasons out of 6 not play offs, but yea I think he's a solid candidate, why not ? Who would you rather have? everybody is on equal ground in this GM search.
Thanks for this report jetclaps. Looks like the deliberate and prudent method, so unusual for the Jets, may be paying off big time in 2013
Yes, but isn't it better still if such talk is realistic and acknowledges bad as well as the good? Well, then it wouldn't be homers talking, would it? Ftr, I hate vicious circles of negativity.
Regarding the first paragraph, I must have missed those many people. Can you find one example? Someone who literally said Rex will pick the GM, meaning on his own? That shouldn't be too difficult if as you say there were many. My point about your saying seems is that is your opinion. You have no idea whether any of the people who did not talk to the Jets or did and went elsewhere had those issues with the team. There is also the specific example of Caldwell, who by all accounts the Jets made an offer to, and he ended up in Jville. Perhaps he prefers the climate down there.
