The D looked pretty good, the O has to stop shooting itself in the foot. If you're going to throw short and try to have 20 play drives down the field, there's a lot of room for shit to go wrong with so many new guys out there.

It does matter because If those missing lineman are better run blockers than their replacements , than Jets might not be able to employ dropping so many defenders in coverage. (which was so effective in confusing Eli)

Confusing Eli doesn't seem to be that difficult of a task though

Some of the penalties really pissed me off. Inexcusable.

Okay, Ferguson gets a false start on 4th and 1, keeps us from getting a FG. But that's going to happen. Mangini sends him off the field to punish him and he has to wait until Q4 to play. Okay, I still have no problem with that... legitimate concern and a way to "remind" Ferguson how important penalties are.

But Jolley's penalty out of bounds was ridiculous and unnecessary. So was Miller's taunting... and even more so... because he does it smack in front of the ref, no less. I mean, he's trash talking and dancing smack-down right in the freakin' ref's ear. Both of these penalties are far more egregious, IMO, than Ferguson's.

Ferguson's was a rookie mistake, but he'll learn from it and it wasn't something intentional. Jolley's and Miller's were intentional and blatant and so unnecessary... stuff like that will draw a flag every single time. In Miller's case, the Giants were done on their 3rd down, I believe. His penalty led to a first down for them and two plays later, the Giants score.

Then I read in this morning's paper where somebody else on the team (Coleman?) said of Miller's penalty (paraphrasing), "That's going to happen, that's the way we play... with a lot of intensity" or some such other lame excuse for the taunting penalty. Nonsense!

Mangini had better get a handle on this IMMEDIATELY, because that's NOT the way I think he wants this team to play. To score points and limit opponents from scoring, you need to be in control of your emotions and NOT be doing trash sh*t in front of the refs like this. Totally unnecessary and avoidable penalty calls. In Miller's case, it was good enough to just have taken out the WR, he didn't have to dance over him with smack-down bullshit. Totally amatuerish, IMO. I guarantee Mangini is having some serious discussions with these guys in the next meeting. Guys like Miller shouldn't be allowed to dictate how they're going to play and what they're going to do. That's for Mangini to decide. Book 'em, Danno.

That Jolley penalty... Madison should have been flagged as well. He was giving Jolley the business five yards out of bounds... and when Jolley bumped him, he took a dive to get the flag. I also saw the Giants, when getting up after a tackle, well after the whistle, throw forearm shivers into the face mask of Jets players when the were on their backs, and unable to defend theselves. It was a very chippy game. The Burress facemask penalty was a clear intent to injure.... he should have been ejected.

The Miller penalty drove me nuts... the Giants went from a thrid and eight to first and goal. I wanted Mangini to take his helmet away from him.
