Thinking more about this, maybe that proves my point. It take A LOT for a top 10 overall pick to slide, and then it's usually into the 20's. Tunsil only dropped to 13th overall with a gas mask hanging off his face. But Polite dropped to 68th. Polite's season full of stellar in-play tape propelled him into the top half of the 1st round. But then his bad combine and off pro day happened. Sure, his agent told him to gain weight. And he was performing on a bad hammy. But still, a bad combine can cause a player to drop, but not too much. 20's maybe? Bottom of the 1st round? There was a drumbeat of anti-Polite going on, 'whispers' of 'other issues' along with his combine/pro day. 'Someone' was whispering, and Polite fell all the way to Macc at 68. It's hard to believe Mac would be smart enough to target Polite. But after Polite's combine, he was set to slide. And with a little help, maybe all the way to 68.
Yup, happens all the time. 'Someone' was whispering about Polite's 'issues', and it caused Polite to drop all the way to 68. Giving Mac credit for this may be too kind. But may be spot on.
I wouldn't call them whispers about Polite. His issues were largely self-inflicted....complaining about questions at the combine, admitting to never watching film of himself and being out of shape. Add to that his injury at the combine that some people claim was faked. It was a risky pick but has the potential to be a good one, but only if Polite can mature and put in the work.
Blow & young girls only knocked Taylor one slot? Imagine if he was a quarterback...the Giants would have passed on him.
Too bad he didn't do this with Sam last year. We could have gotten him in the 2nd round and held on to our draft capital.
Everything Polite has said after the draft has been very positive. If he's motivated to prove his naysayers wrong, he's in a good spot to do so with Quinnen & Leo up front. Mosely calling the shots and Adams cleaning up. Williams. Williams. Mosely. Adams. Pretty good support group. Polite is strong against the run...and a very good tackler. I'm picturing Quinnen and Polite going hog wild...they both have high motors...you paying attention Leo? This could be the best defense to hit the field in years. I'm starting to sound like DWC....
Even with the coke, women and no weight lifting...LT tore up the league. I haven't seen a linebacker yet that compares...he was a beast. Aggressive...Angry ...Violent. He could turn a game by sheer will. Taylor actually compelled me to watch the Giants.
