but a major pussy when it comes to getting physical and tackling! even after the namdi debacle, cro wasn't getting much interest's, yet the jets still over paid for his services. good #2 cb coverage wise, but a serious liability tackling wise!
Eric Smith Bryan Thomas Jim Leonard Bart Scott Calvin Pace Wayne Hunter Mulligan Just to name a few not very qualified NYJ players
Here's my list... Cut Mulligan - sucks TJ Conley - same Brunell – too old LT – too old Plaxico – Would rather see a younger WR or more of a deep threat to stretch the field On the bubble I realize the following players have a bum rap, but I’d be willing to keep them around for another year. Folk – wasn’t worse than average, unless we can clearly upgrade I don’t see cutting him Eric Smith – should be demoted, but would be a valuable backup Ducasse – has started being useful in certain packages (jumbo mostly), could continue to improve and start contributing better as a backup Hunter – another guy who should be demoted to backup. Not a starter.
Pace & Scott can't be cut this year due to cap reasons Leonard gone due to injury Thomas ? Hunter saves $2.5 m on cap if cut, I believe bye-bye Mulligan - bye-bye
I separate the money issue from the playing. Smith needs to be off the field except as mentioned in an above post on special teams or as run stopper only. Plax isn't going to command a large amount of money. The real question is why isn't he used more? Is it Schotty's poor play calling or has Plax declined in talent and do we trust Tanny to be a proper judge of that? Slauson has been ok but he's no dominating OL. As Parcells would say he's a space holder. He can't be removed from the starting line up now but next year should be his last as a starter unless he improves to be a dominant starter. Bart Scott has had an awful year. Cap issues prevent him from being cut until after the '12 season but his replacement needs to be drafted next year. Pool and Trufant haven't exactly stepped up either. They are acceptable back ups but if better players are available they need to go also. I'm reserving judgement onStrickland, I think in the right role he could fit in well. Kyle Wilson is turning into a wasted draft pick (as are many other recent selections, yet no one is blasting Tanny yet for not getting it done in FA or in draft). He's nothing special but he provides depth. He's here for now but I don't see him being extended beyond his rookie deal unless he can really turn it around. These are in addition to those mentioned in quote.
Based on Suckitude not on salary: Mulligan Pool Patrick Turner Conley *Hunter *Ducasse *Pace *Now, While I have killed Hunter,Ducasse and Pace they are servicable. Pace is good vs the run but we absolutely need a Pass rusher and he is clearly not that. Hunter needs to be on the depth chart because after Turner he is actually a decent player @ times just not consistent enough . Ducasse is a roadgrading guard and when we use him as that he may actually learn something but if not, send him to the scrap heap too. I think anyone coming off injury deserves a shot to remain on the team.
Pace is no world beater but he's played better this year. He's another guy that they are stuck with in '12 because of his cap it ($9mm) but will likely be let go in '13.
My list is assuming, we magically get replacememnts and salry cap doesnt count. Purely on suckiness or anobvious need to get younger/better... Leonhard Smith Pace Scott Hunter Mulligan Ducasse Plax Mulligan again Leonhard and Smith again Smith Leonhard Mulligan
Who we cut depends on salary cap Here is an unofficial link to 2012 salary cap info http://nyjetscap.com/salary12.html Numbers in last column on right in parentheses = money counted against cap if we cut Numbers in last column on right, no parentheses = money saved if we cut Players w/money saved worth mentioning: Sanchez ($9m) (here's to the escalation of "get rid of Sanchez" argument) B. Moore ($3m) DeVito($2.8) Hunter($2.5) Smith ($2) Keller ($1.1) Pituitoa ($1.1) If I understand it correctly, Jets are at least $6m under the cap, not counting what they carry over from 2011. This info must be taken into account when determining who to cut
That's not clear at all. The 2012 cap isn't set and it could be lower than the 2011 number (the 2011 number was 120.3 with $3 million in exemptions; the 2012 number is to be determined but there will only be 1.5 million in exemptions so it could be as low as 121.8 million including exemptions). The Jets are at about 119 million so they could be as little as about 3 million under the cap. [Conversely if the cap is much higher they could be 5 or 10 million under the adjusted cap] It's not a terrible situation but they don't have a ton of room either.
BTW $2.3 m hit if Cromartie cut $1.1 m hit if Pace cut $1.2m hit if Scott cut I said earlier they won't cut Pace or Scott b/c of cap hit. More accurately, they they will save $15million together if cut after 2012, instead of before.
I don't follow your numbers. If the Jets cut Cromartie in 2012 he takes up 10.6 million in 2012 cap space. If the Jets cut Cromartie in 2013 he takes up 2.5 million in 2013 cap space. If the Jets cut Scott in 2012 he takes up 7.2 million in 2012 cap space. If the Jets cut Scott in 2013 he takes up 1.2 million in 2013 cap space. If the Jets cut Pace in 2012 he takes up 9.1 million in 2012 cap space. If the Jets cut Pace in 2013 he takes up 3 million in 2013 cap space.
1) Hunter - I don't follow the rationale of keeping him as a backup...So as a backup let's say he is forced into the lineup due to injury. We are right where we started. Cut his ass. 2) Mulligan - Useless. 3) Leonhard, Smith, Pool - We need to revamp this unit. 4) Trade Cro if the value is right. He plain sucks and is way too inconsistent for my liking.
I think you are looking at the dead money value, From what I understand, you subtract dead money value from cap value, if its positive, you get a cap savings. If its negative, you get a cap hit. From what I understand, dead money means guaranteed money left on a cut player's contract (its different than, and in addition to, a pro-rated bonus) Or I could be wrong But check this site http://nyjetscap.com/salary12.html
Right, but what I'm saying is that if you cut a guy you always take a hit the size of the remaining dead money, the only question is whether you take an extra hit or get any kind of saving. So Bart Scott takes up 6 million in cap space if they keep him and 7.2 if they cut him (thus there's a 1.2 million cap "hit" if you cut him) but in either case he uses a ton of cap room.
No the difference between the cap value saved and the dead money counts toward the cap. Its like having an additional player who makes $1.25m on the team. That's why its called dead money. My original point was that there's no value to cutting Scott this year. He would add $1.25m to the Jets cap space, on top of all the $$$ for the other players They probably won't cut him for that reason alone. He saves them a little over $7m if they cut him after 2012. This is almost certainly his last year w/the Jets
How much cap space do you think Scott takes up if they keep him in 2012 and how much if they cut him? The correct answer is 7.2 if they cut him and 6 if they keep him.
