How can Fitz play with thumb half ripped off, play the week after surgery with just a glove, but this ahole needs a club a year later.

Fitz isn't using his hands the way a lineman needs to. Plus he didn't blow his fingers off either.

Yup. Totally unacceptable. You play with what you have. You want a glove to cover your fingers fine. But that cast is obnoxious and he can't be allowed to use that for the rest of his career.

But it's not the rest of the leagues fault that JPP is an idiot and endangered his career by playing with fireworks. He can't be allowed to swing that thing at players heads, especially with all the concussion protocols going on in the league right now. He could seriously hurt someone.

    Oh, I don't disagree.

I'm just pointing out that one guy has to handle the ball on every play and one guy is fighting for his life with a 300 lb gorilla on every play. You can't compare the two injuries and how the players wrap them.

But he shouldn't have any kind of club at all. I'm curious how hard that thing was. If it was just a big wad of gauze, I'm not so horrified. If it was a plaster cast, that's a different story. Club or bare hand, though, the hits to the head are not allowed and should've been flagged.

It definitely looked like more than just a big wad of gauze. We wouldn't know for sure but I bet there was a pad or something in there at the very least to protect the hand. I don't think he would've had a plaster cast, i doubt he would've played with that but who knows I guess.

Your last point is dead on though. The violation was more about how he was using the club then the club itself. I don't think the NFL should have an issue with him playing with a giant club like that anytime but if he's going to hit people in the head with it - he should be flagged every time. Hands to the face is a penalty in this league whether that hand is covered or not.

I think likely what he has is something very hard and plastic/acrylic/carbon fiber but very light as a protective measure covering the hand and the wads and wads of padding is wrapped around the hard plastic core so that he's not hitting someone with the hard plastic.

It's adding a bit of weight but not like he has a roll of pennies in his fist and the padding there is to protect opponents and not so much his hand.

I played football in high school and we had a kid that played defensive back on our team that was missing his thumb and index finger from an accident. He had a good sense of humor about it. He wore number 8 for the number of fingers he had lol.

He just wore a special glove with the thumb and index area sewed in. If he was a lineman in the NFL maybe he would've worn a club too.

Yeah again, I don't think he's wearing a club because he has no fingers.

I would imagine by next year when the skin grafts and the stubs have healed he'll only be wearing a glove.

I have to imagine the club is there to pad the device that is protecting the skin graft and surgically repaired digit.

The club is definitely going to come off at some point if it's a hard surface like plaster. They'll make him a glove that protects his hand but can't be weaponized. If he was using his hand against an opponent's helmet consistently he'd get flagged, it's not like the club makes him immune to the fact that you cannot hit the opponent's helmet with your hands, arms, shoulder at this point.

As mentioned by multiple posters, it should be a penalty. Makes no sense why it is not being called.

    Section 2 Personal Fouls
    STRIKING, KICKING, OR KNEEING OPPONENT
    Article 1
    All players are prohibited from:
    (a) striking with the fists;
    (b) kicking or kneeing; or
    (c) striking, swinging, or clubbing to the head, neck, or face with the heel, back, or side of the hand,
wrist, arm, elbow, or clasped hands. See 12-2-3

Do you think he will open up his own Fireworks store when his career is over?

I don't have any problem with him using it as a club. I have a problem with him using it to club a player's helmet, which is very illegal even with a bare hand.

I am disappointed that Mr. Watt did not experience any great degree of success utilizing his similar club in his encounter with Mr. Brady.

The rules seem to say you can't use your arm as a club at all, but yeah hitting opponents in the head is even worse.
