Aside from Steinbrenner, who isn't a cheap skate?

Leon Washington has always been a part of a backfield that shares carries. At Florida State and with the New York Jets, he's always split time with more backs.

Tiki Barber was a feature back after his third year in the league. Please don't compare Leon Washington, who's 2 inches shorter and 10 pounds lighter, to one of the better running backs to play in New York.

Barber's biggest knock was a serious case of fumblitis.

I said he was very productive. ...and he wasn't injured. Look through the injury reports again. He was listed as having a knee injury against the Chargers, and that's it.

If he's going to be a fallback option in our offense, then he's not worth the money. That's my entire point. Thomas Jones isn't worth what the Jets were going to pay him.

...is that supposed to matter? You act like this team can't improve at kicker.

No, he didn't. He has not-wanting-to-tackle interests.

That's the most reasonable post that you have made in this thread, and it doesn't reflect the tenor of the other posts at all.

I agree with all of these things. Regarding Jones, though, at one point, when Leon went down, he was the only guy. Greene was not yet an option. So he kind of got worn down as the season went. But the Washington injury was a fluke -- praying it never happens again.

I had a chance to meet Rhodes after one of the games and spoke to him briefly about the Tweets. He seemed like he genuinely understood that he went a little too far. But that's just my take from a brief meeting with a bunch of fans standing around looking for autographs.

And Feely did do great. I don't believe he's middle of the pack, as someone said. Kicking 30 of 36 field goals is pretty damn good.

I apologize for the bad tenor. I've always sang out of tune anyway :)

30 of 36 field goals is middle of the pack. Go to Yahoo Sports or ESPN and compare Feely's accuracy, or as you like to say "consistency", to other kickers in this league.

He ranks 17th. That's middle of the pack.

If 30 of 36 is pretty good then youre gonna love Folk. He made 20 of 22 in 2008

Oh please, that was a freak injury. You act like he never ran inside before.

Jones wouldn't have had 300+ carries this year, he would have been sharing w/ at least one other player.

You bring up one bad game from 2005 against Feely? He was great for us.

Tiki was not a feature back in the NFL until 2002, going into year 4 the Giants spent a 1st rd pick on a RB.

    Tiki first 3 years: 250 carries, 935 yds, 3.7 YPC, 3 TDs
    Leon first 3 years: 298 carries, 1451 yds, 4.9 YPC, 13 TDs

We can compare, if Tiki never gets the shot to be a feature back he has a worse career than leon.

The man was hurthing down the strethc, that was obvious.

It took us 30 years to get a reliable K and then we look to upgrade?

3 of those "misses" were from bad snaps/holds. he was great for us this year.

I see he ranked 17th. That certainly is middle of the pack. I stand corrected.

I also know that at least two of those kicks were from botched holds or bad snaps, so that's not entirely his fault. But I'm sure all kickers have to deal with that sometime.

Folk made the pro bowl a few seasons ago, which is good. But I see that it is believed Folk missed many of his kicks last season because of mental errors. And him coming to media-crazed NY, that's not so good. Nugent looked like the most accurate and calmest guy in college. He came to NY and nerves got to him.

Not really mental errors, but rather a flawed technique which came from coming back too quickly and having to overcompensate for unhealed injuries. He says Sailer has already helped correct those flaws, and I tend to trust him based on how well his tryout purportedly went.

Feely also has to deal with the winds at the Meadowlands.. I don't think it's a stretch to say he's a top 10 kicker in the NFL.

The New York Post reports the New England Patriots could make a run at New York Jets restricted free-agent RB Leon Washington, according to two league observers.

How would you guys that want to dump Leon feel about this?

If Leon signs an offer sheet with the Pats, he'll remain a Jet, so I like it.

Which is exactly what they want. I don't doubt for a second that the pats would love to drive the price up knowing that the Jets would hate to see Leon fall into their laps. Patriots have had a long history of being frugal with players. what makes you think they're gonna throw the most money at a player coming off of a horrific injury. All posturing in my opinion.

They're not going to throw the most money at him, hence why I'd love it. If Leon signs an offer sheet with the Pats, it'll mean no one offered to overpay him and we'll have an offer sheet in front of us that we'd be more than happy to match.

I don't for a second think that the Pats would actually sign Leon to an absurd contract just to force us to match it. If they did, we would bid him adieu, take the 2nd rounder, and watch them struggle with the new cap in 2011. New England is too smart for that.

I wouldn't doubt that the Patriots could do this, not just to make life difficult for the Jets, but because they need some help at halfback. They've leaned on Kevin Faulk for years to fill a role that Leon Washington could be perfect for, and Faulk is old enough that the Patriots could certainly be looking to the future. Not to mention Maroney is hardly a franchise back, and Fred Taylor didn't contribute a thing last year. Adding Leon makes them better, and taking him away from the Jets also makes them better.

But yea, unless the Patriots really go over the top on a contract offer, I can't imagine the Jets not matching.
