He isnt playing because Sanchez is hurt. The extra virgin QB with little experience shockingly could start week 1 if Sanchez isnt ready to go. It just goes to show how stupid the move to put Sanchez in the 4th was. Geno needed extra playing time and obviously cant risk injuring him more in a meaningless game so he sits tomorrow while knowing he needs the most practice out of all of em. If Sanchez was healthy, Geno plays the 1st Q tomorrow.
seriously people, use your f'n head. We don't play Geno because he is the only healthy QB on the roster worthy to start Game 1 if necessary. Imagine if we trot him out and he gets hurt and Sanchy isn't ready to go Wk 1. Then what? Simms? Take a second to think before you type over-reaction. F'n fanbase.
While you make a good point about the injury I don't really see people over reacting. As far as I can see your post is the most aggressive one here with "f'n" this and "f'n" that and general tone. For my point I was just saying give him a couple of drives at the start with the better OL in the lineup. Sure he could get hurt but he could also get hurt in practice, you aren't going to hold him out of practice because he "could" get hurt. Plus, it's not like he'd be going up against the best pass rushers in the league. He'd be up against the Eagles 2nd stringers at best. I don't think he'd get murdered in maybe three or four drives with a few quick passes, run it a lot, etc. Just get him on the field with actual opponents even if they aren't the best ones because he can't wear a red jersey once the season starts.
I hope so, worst QB except for Curtis Painter. He only made the NFL because he was throwing to Crabtree in college. Our plan should be to keep Geno out of the preseason game to avoid injury and let McElroy heal up. Matt Sims gets the start and Harrell can mop up or come in if Sims gets hurt.
i suppose, if sanchez and mcelroy are really injured, this guy could stick around. and geno should get more action in this upcoming game. unless they're thinking of going with simms and having geno just watch-and-learn
By Saturday this is how it will all shake out. Sanchez, Geno and Harrell on the active roster. Simms goes to the practice squad as I doubt any team puts him on their active roster. McElroy is finished here because he is hurt and Rex has no confidence in him.
1. He could get hurt walking too? Should we put him in a wheel chair?...where he can also get hurt...etc. Practice and Game are two separate things, you know better than that. 2. And how many snaps was Sanchy in the game before he got hurt? And what level of competition was he playing against that put the hurt on him? Get it? I'm all for playing Geno, if we know that Sanchez is ready to go week 1. I type "f'n" to let those know they are being ridiculous (not saying you are). but i curse in general...it's a bad habit and a (not so good) way to exasperate my emotions.
I still can't imagine how a guy like Tyler Thigpen still doesn't get another shot, but guys like Leinart, Beck, Harrell do
Well I'm taking that Geno's lone drive is with the 1st team offense to get them all just one drive together.....and then after that, the reserves come in.
Because Thigpen is an absolute Wildman - on and off the field. He does what he wants. You bring in Beck, Leinart, Harrell, (or virtually any scrub QB) and they will do their best to learn the offense, play the system, be good soldiers, etc. They might not be good, but at least you can count on them to try. That's a backup QB. Thigpen will run whatever he wants to do out there, not bother to pay attention to the offense, the scheme etc. He'll improvise to the point where you don't know what the hell he's going to do out there. On top of that you need to keep tabs on him off the field. That's why he's out of a job. He's not good enough to do whatever he wants and have coaches look the other way.
No shit. No one's throwing Geno with the shitty reserves....I am just saying some teams like to use the 1st team offense in the 4th preseason game, even if for a drive. That's all I am saying. I don't know how it will work since the Jets starters did play ALOT of the 3rd preseason game but if Geno does get a series, it has to be with the 1st team. Otherwise, yeah no way Geno appears in the game.
It's mostly a hindsight thing, I guess. If we played Geno and he got hurt it would be a catastrophically stupid thing to do but if we played him and got him some experience and he looked good it would be beneficial to him, not life-altering but beneficial. On a sort of cost-benefit analysis and being cautious the smart thing to do is to sit him because any injury to him would be more devastating then him getting a few snaps would be helpful. I get that. I just think a couple of drives wouldn't have been the end of the world. It's a moot point now anyway as they've said Smith is going to sit that game.
Sparano left the 1st team offense against the Cowboys in the last preseason game during his last season in Miami. He let them play 4 series I think and got Jake Long injured to the point that it affected him the entire year.
Yeah injuries can always happen and I think the coaching staff playing the Jets O for as long as they did probably means they take a break on Thursday. Jets have been lucky to not have anyone get seriously hurt(Sanchez won't miss the season) during these preseason games. Yeah Griffin's season was lost but I mean more so to the vital pieces of the team. 4 series is terrible management though.....that's asking for trouble.
yeah ... I agree. They always argue to give the starters a series or two to build confidence but the flip side is that if the offense can't perform on guys that will be likely cut the next day ... what effect does that have on the mentality of the team?
