He's huge for a WR. If the Jets can get him to buy in he's going to be a very good player for them. If they can't, and nobody has been able to get him to fully buy in at any level, then he's going to be driving a forklift in two years.

I'd put the proposition to him and I'd rip him out of his comfort zone by changing his position and forcing him to do the thing he hates doing. The guy is a great athlete. The question is whether or not he's a pro. If not, pass the trash and move on. There's no room for marginal divas in the NFL.

Thanks. Yeah, he has some very good skill sets that could turn him into a nice steal for us. He has the play-maker ability that we so desperately lack. And with how we claimed him off waivers, I'm assuming we had him pretty high on our UDFA list as well.

Atleast if Sanchez starts, Davis has experience working with an inaccurate passer I guess.

However, his blocking is most likely going to be his downfall. He was suspended after the Florida State game for 2 games I believe. That leads me to believe that being suspended one game didn't teach him anything, so he wasn't let back on for the second game either. And then he got cut after not being drafted. I'm assuming he's not taking very well to coaching, which could be his downfall. My only hope is that him being suspended for his final two games, not getting drafted, and then being released so quickly causes him to atleast see the light. I don't think he's going to last on the roster with Rex if he doesn't improve his desire to block immensely.

I also read that he had a shoulder injury years ago, that concerned scouts. I'm wondering if that could be the root cause of him not wanting to block, and put further strain on his shoulder. Even on the fumbles, it's always when he about to land on his shoulder that he seems to fumble. If our medical staff can find a way to fix the shoulder, then maybe he wouldn't be as hesitant. He could start the year on the PUP or even the IR if he needs surgery, with the hope that a healthy shoulder allows him to block without pain or fear. A stretch, but could be a possibility.

But besides from blocking, he really has a ton of things to like. Good speed to get behind DBs (albeit, not great for a guy that ran a ton of go routes), very good size and leaping ability, and can adjust his routes towards the ball (Something that I think Stephen Hill lacks as of now).

There are a lot of NFL receivers who can't block or don't block very well and with the predominance of the air attack in todays nfl rules a blocking WR isn't as important as it was 15 or 20 years ago, still nice to have to keep the running game going, but the smurfs for Marino weren't exactly good blockers either...then agan Miami in those days barely ran the football.

Blocking WR's in college is a focal point in many programs, in fact in some programs (such as the one Hill came out of) blocking is the primary focus of WR's since they run so much.

Is it nice to have a WR that blocks well? Yes it is, but if I guy is explosive and can stretch the field blocking in the NFL is a low priority at that point for a WR. hell it's becoming a lower prioity for TE's in todays game as more and more of them become field stretching receiving options in pass oriented offenses.

The fumbles, those are a legit concern but I honestly can not find enough tape on him to judge one way or the other on those. But you can teach ball security, you can't teach the raw skills he has.

I'm not saying he will make the team, but if he shows well in camp I'd bet he makes it as the #5 or #6 reciever, but he has to show something in camp.

True, although we seem to value blocking a good amount though. Hill and Braylon are both considered very good blockers, not sure what people think of Holmes blocking wise.

What concerned me about the blocking were that, he didn't even block for passes or even when the runner was running towards him, instead he just stood around like he was playing basketball almost. I could defintiely seem Ryan become angry over it, and getting in his dog house for it.

But saying that, as you've said, he has excellent talent other wise, and fits a need. The ability to grab high thrown passes with his leaping ability is He seems to be a very good WR, just the other aspects when he's not involved in the play that concerns me.

What's best about him, that fits our need? His vertical jump. He posted a vertical jump of 39.50", tied for the best with Justin Hunter. That's better than Julio Jones (38.6"), Jimmy Graham (38.5"), Rob Gronkowski (32"- although not sure if his back injury limited him then), Coby Fleener (37"), Stephen Hill (39.50"- the same here), and Emmanuel Sanders (39.5"- again the same). So he's up there with some of the best at his leaping ability and catching the ball in the air, which should help our usually stagnant offense in the redzone I guess, if he makes the team.

What's the reason the Giants cut him so quickly? Anyone know?

Can't see spending too much time wondering about a player cut literally hours into the Giants first practices.

victor cruz was a project of theirs just 3 years ago.

after he torched us for 3 tds. i won't mention the regular season game the year after that!

Giants signed a couple of veterans and the expected resigning of Cruz, on the Day Davis was cut they Giants signed a total of 5 new players and was one of 6 players cut to make room.

Translation, this happens every year at this time of year and soemtimes, like last year with GB receiver (I think the name was Boyken or something like that) they make the new team after being cut.

I'm not saying He will make the team, I just think that he's got a real shot to IF he performs. He's got his chance, he's got the tools, now he needs to show he can use them and get and keep a job. I like the kid, I wanted him as a late round pick or UDFA, that's now happened....If the kid blooms the jets get an absolute steal, if he doesn't they lose nothing.
