I used to like Peyton .but after the whole thing with Eli and the Chargers,i hope both of them suck their entire careers. This just makes 41-0 feel that much better. Hopefully one day he and Marino can sit together in ringless retirement and talk about how it may have been different if they played for the Jets.
That was a great game, but the second-best Jet game ever was the AFL championship game in 1968 against Oakland (the game that got the Jets into the Super Bowl).
He wouldn't have taken Pennington if he was going to be the one to develop him. He knew he was on the way out in 2000 and he just didn't want people saying his fascination with Vinny and Ray Lucas had left the Jets with no QB moving forward. Chad was an easy way out for him and he grabbed it.
God, Archie must be jealous that he had to spend his career on the crappy Saints and must be trying to vicariously live through his sons. They have brains Archie, let them make a decision for themselves.
Leaf would have been a Colt Maybe the most interesting thing is that is Manning had come out and been a Jet, Indianapolis would have picked Leaf. People forget that Leaf was rated just as high as Manning and almost picked him first anyway.
Sorry the best game excluding SB3 was the AFL championship game @ Shea in Dec 68 between the Raiders & us since for the winner it meant a trip to the SB.
That's not all... Back in the 83' draft... With the 24th pick in the 1983 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select Ken O'Brien..... With the 27th pick in the 1983 draft, the Miami Dolphins select Dan Marino.... Back in 1984.... With the 10th pick in the 1984 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select Al Toon.... With the 16th pick in the 1984 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select Jerry Rice... Although this one is a stretch, the Jets took RB Blair Thomas with the 2nd overall pick. Fifteen picks later, the Dallas Cowboys take Emmitt Smith... Oh well, no sense complaining about what could have been. What's done is done.... But for one minute just think, Dan Marino handing off to Emmitt Smith and passing to Jerry Rice. Wow, that would have been quite possibly the best trio in NFL history...
The last part of your post is so true.. In 1983 the Jets made the wrong pick but in 1985 Al Toon was the right pick at the time, he was the brighter prospect and Jerry Rice was coming from a much smaller program - it was Rice that exceeded expectations. In 1990 Thomas was the best rated RB...just bad luck for the Jets and extremely good luck for Jimmy Johnson and the Cowboys.....
