Please don't be dumb and pull a Brett favre part II. This franchise cannot be this stipid to make the same mistake twice, can they? peyton has had much more talent and barely won a SB when he was in his prime, he's not coming here and winning SBs w/ this team. We have a much better chance to keep developing around the QB.

Seeing these discussions reminds me of the Yankees, everyone bashes the pitching but it's the bats that kill us every October, for the Jets everyone bashes the O but it's been the D why we lost the 2 title games.

If that story is true (I've heard a few different variations of the story), Parcells COULD NOT say anything about drafting Manning first. He had not entered into the draft yet so no team could say that they would take him.

Favre was pretty much washed up and well beyond his prime when he came here. Prior to missing last season Peyton hadn't shown any signs of decline.

All that so called talent Peyton had around him looked great when he was gone, didn't it? :)

Do people really want Peyton Manning? He's 36, coming off a one year layoff, his third neck surgery, and his cost will cripple this team. Seriously I think Sanchez has more upside at this point in their careers.

Schotty will not be back I don't care what the Jets say, they want the guy gainfully employed and if that doesn't happen he'll be let go. Let's see how Sanchez does under a different OC.

He couldn't say anything publicly or directly to the Mannings but he could get word to them, he wouldn't assure them he would have taken him(though he would have) or he would have been a Jet in 1997 BUT our fellow fans would have run Peyton out of town for big game failures anyway(that's a dig more at our fanbase than Peyton).

Think about how close we were to Peyton or Brady and BP cost us both. First w/ Peyton in '97 then if BB wasn't afraid to work under BP we would have had the same staff in palce as the Pats and probably would have drafted Brady. So close to 2 HOF QBs and at least a SB or 2 BUT I am happy w/ Mark, he'll never be Brady or Manning but we can win big w/ him.

Favre had one of his best seasons ever the year before and probably his best ever the year after. We got him late in a new system and he didn't want to be here but he could still play.

Peyton was still a top QB before the injury but we have no idea if he'll ever fully recoever from this injury and then he'd be thrown into a new team w/ likely a new system and new teammates.

If Indy had any competent QB they would have won a lot of games, as it was Wayne and Garcon just missed out on 1,000 yds each w/ the awful QB play they had.

And Dan Orlovsky had a better QB rating than the great QB play we had.

I'm reading Keyshawn's book (never read it until now) and he mentions the Jets getting Peyton. Sounds like there were definitely some talk internally about getting Peyton during the 1996 season. That would have been awesome to see (Peyton to Keyshawn). Oh well.

Uh..no, it's the pitching..the bats go quiet because of good pitching and the Yankees lose because of bad pitching..

I don't believe that is true -- but only Archie and Parcells can confirm it 100% (Peyton, too, or one of the other family members).

Besides, did Archie think that Parcells would NOT take Peyton #1 ? Even though Parcells was moaning about the picks the Jets had to give the Pats and the salary cap, I can't believe Parcells would have been that dumb.

Don't be so insecure and project your own fears on Sanchez. you don't have any idea what will or will not affect his confidence.

the pitching was more than good enough to beat Dettoir and win most of the seris' they lost the last decade, they lose b/c they couldn't hit when it mattered most. it's called ARod syndrome.

The story came from Archie in an interview this year. No idea if its true or no. But it makes sense considering how Archie moved Eli to NY 7 years later.

Jim Irsay talking about the colts rebuilding (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7...mits-indianapolis-colts-rebuilding-some-areas) they have a lot of big name UFA and big name RFA - they can't sign everyone, pay Manning, and Luck. The Colts will be a different team and I don't see Manning want to play in a rebuilding situation. He is still 35 -- the neck is a hug concern, but if he is healthy enough to play at a high level it is hard not to take a look at a guy that will be free to sign anywhere. Sanchez cap number the next 2 years isn't bad and having him learn behind Manning might not be a bad thing. I don't see this option as Farve II since he was back and forth with retirement, the Packers, the dick pics, etc... Manning has a passion to win and win every week..he could be a veteran leader in the locker room, put Holmes in his place, and make the running game that much better. Can't put 8 in the box with Manning throwing the ball. If he gets hurt and Sanchez has to come in we know he can play. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. No way Manning gets traded with the contract he has no so the Colts only have two choices - pay him and hope or cut him and use that money to retool the team.

As per Mannish Mehta on his Live Chat

Colts will sign Andrew Luck and release Peyton Manning.

If Peyton Manning came to the Jets, Mark Sanchez would not be here.

what would the upside of dropping sanchez bed? you would bring in a qb with a neck that could snap in half after one good hit and Sanchez has proven he can win in NY.

There is no upside. It is very enticing to have Peyton as your starting QB. I always felt they would demote Sanchez and have Manning to mentor him. But, if the Jets ship Sanchez out, the team would be in a precarious spot.

Manning's upside right now is he is a superbolw-winning QB and first ballot HOFer. Sanchise has more upside?

I would hope he means there is less to lose with keeping Sanchez. If we cut Mark and go after Peyton, it could set this franchise back many years if Manning gets hurt or if we don't win it all.

Sanchez is not very good. He is YOUNG, but he isn't developing. Not a typical fan, just one that pays attention.

not developing? set record for most combined TDs in Jet history, #1 rated red zone offense (with a shitty oline/lackluster running game), more yards, more TD, better completion %...he developed but needs to eliminate mistakes....josh freeman didn't develop...joe flacco regressed and the stats show it.
