Peyton Manning's YPA in 2010 was 10% below his career average and more than 2 yards an attempt below his peak. His TD percentage was more than 10% below his career average and less than HALF of his peak season. The reason Peyton Manning's numbers looked good in 2010 was because the Colts gave him 88 passes more than he had ever attempted in his career in a season and more than 100 over his average. What they got out of that was a badly injured Peyton Manning. The next step in that progression is Manning is finished most likely. Curtis Martin in 2004? Actually had the greatest season of his career, not just the most attempts buffing it to look good. Curtis Martin in 2005? Done.
Again I ask, why would any of you want to win a superbowl with Peyton Manning as QB? The guy is and will always be a Colt. When he would give his interviews of what the Jets organization means to him and his career - he can give half-assed answers similar to Brett Favre's regarding the franchise and what they did for his career. The instant gratification would quickly fade after he retired and returned back to the history books as a colt.
Agreed with all of that, although I'd rather see them try Maybin in situational packages only for a while. Rex needs to find a way to benefit from that speed without always using him on the edge.
Peyton Manning is not a running back, the comparison is a joke. You have to ask WHY Manning had so many attempts in 2010, and one logical explanation is the lack of a competent running game. Short passes to make up for the lack of a running game would greatly impact the YPA. Are you suggesting the reason is that the Colts wanted his numbers to look good in spite of the low YPA? Give me a break. Peyton carried the Colts to another division championship in 2010.
Peyton Manning is going to be 36 and coming off of multiple neck surgeries. He's a worse bet than a 31 year old runningback.
Call it hearsay all you want, but when my boss went to NFL Films a few weeks ago and came back and told me that Jaworski said the "Jets offense would be fine if they had a quarterback that could throw the fucking ball," I gotta take that opinion at face value. I hold his opinion to a much higher standard than anyone on this message board, no offense. As I said, I didn't hear it first-hand, but he said he went on to show them film of why Sanchez sucks. He said he didn't even sugarcoat it at all.
Jaws said Clemens was the best QB of the 06 class. He also said Kellen would out-compete Sanchez for the starting job.
This is a non-issue. I don't want Mr. Colt to become the next Brett Favre debacle. How much does Payton have left in the tank? This would be just another "brand name to sell tickets" move. I want "real" young talent. Getting a legend at the end of his career is a waste.
+1 I'd much rather see what Sanchez can do next year under new leadership than bring in a one and done veteran who will never be considered a Jet even if he does win the SB. On top of that we would once again be mortgaging the future for a one year shot considering the money and possibly picks that would have to be invested, not to mention Manning's very precarious physical condition. I think, and hope, that they learned their lesson with Favre. I don't see it happening and don't get why it's such a popular idea.
Alex Smith perfect example of good coaching. This year 49ers basically '09 Jets with a slightly better QB.
You mean a much better QB. Leafchez was god awful in 09. The rest of the team is very comparable though.
I was never as impressed with a Rex Ryan era Jets defense as I was with the 49ers defense against New Orleans this weekend. They are a scary defense. They remind me of an early 2000s Ravens defense.
1 rushing touchdown all year I believe? They really closed the pocket on Brees and made him look normal after he looked on fire for the end of the season.
if you don't believe in sanchez then I don't want you try to get back on the bandwagon when Mark blooms next year. Just look at how Eli came into his own, and I think Mark is better than eli in almost every category when eli was in his 3rd year. quick edit before all the mark haters jump on me
Not too sure about that, 2009 Jets defense was pretty scary as well. The one thing the 49ers have that we don't is a star pass rusher and some athletic safeties. Give this defense a pass rusher can make the QB have to throw before he wants to at our secondary and I think we can be back at 2009 form on the defensive side. I'm loving what the 49ers have been doing this season though, stop the run and force the team to be 1 dimensional and do not give up the big play, force the team to drive the ball down the field on you. They are a very well coached team and well disciplined.
The way that they blew two leads in the last 3 minutes of that game was certainly reminiscent of this year's Jets defense. Manning is certainly the exception, not the rule.
You need to make that comparison in terms of how each compared to the other QB's in the league that year. This year was officiated much differently than 2006 up until the divisional round of the playoffs and it resulted in passing stats being up across the board. Mark is ranked lower than Eli was in '06 in most every category when compared to his peers in the same season.
Whats annoying is both their safeties were available as affordable free agents this last off season if we had not spent our whole friggin time chasing nnamdi
