10 games left in the season sooo, lets think about how it should shake out given no playoffs... Geno - 2 games Petty - 6 games Hackenberg - 1 (Only if he's ready. If not, Petty gets that game) Fitz: -1 game (Only because Bowles has already said it) Balt.
I think we should go with Geno until the Bye, and then give Petty or Hack the ball for the remainder of the season (unless Geno surprises over the next 4 games). There is no way Fitz should be back out there.
Hackenberg was drafted with a plan in mind. It didn’t involve him playing this year. The Jets shouldn’t throw a guy out there who they don’t believe is ready. Petty will get his chance. But if the Jets are smart they will wait and prepare him to take over. Let him get reps in practice for a few weeks. In the meantime let Fitz or Geno play. It doesn’t matter who. But don’t just throw Petty out there. That’s a mistake. Get him ready first and then make the switch.
It makes sense. Why bother with Fitz at this point? Chances of making the playoffs are abysmal at this point. I'd be fine with Geno to bye (although I think 4 games may even be too much) and then Petty/Hack after.
Petty has to play at least half the games to see what we have. If he's terrible, then the jets will continue to lose and end up drafting top 3, so it's a win win move If he is healthy, at Cleveland and at miami would be two pretty good spots for him to start out. At worst, let him take over after rams game, which would give him the bye and then a six game stretch. Not much reason to play Geno or Fitzpatrick considering neither will be there next year.
And then the Genobots will say after the loss: He didn't have the weapons like Fitz did! (No Decker). Ron
This really isn't that complicated. You play Geno while increasing Pettys reps in practice every week. Once he's ready, insert him in sometime in the next 2-3 games.
Starting Petty in Cleveland would make a lot of sense. Of course that means we won't do it but, we can dream..
For the same reason why Fitz hasn't been benched before now. To coin a well worn phrase: "its the contract.. stupid"
Brian Costello @BrianCoz 1h1 hour ago Ryan Fitzpatrick was accurate in just 33.3 percent of plays he was pressured, per @PFF. He is now their lowest-grades QB out of 35 graded
Geno is on the first thing smokin so I wouldn't give him too many more games to audition for his next team.
why would the coaches want to see Geno? why do fans want to see Geno? He is a free agent after the year, the worst thing would be if Geno plays decent on a soft schedule and they re sign him and its the same spot. THEY NEED TO PLAY PETTY NOW!! I CANT TAKE IT ANY MORE. I just heard Brian Costello say maybe in December they will play Bryce.
Kimberly Jones@KimJonesSports 2h2 hours ago From @NFLResearch: Ryan Fitzpatrick has passer rating of 46.0 when targeting Brandon Marshall this season: 27-of-60, 433 yards, 2 TD, 5 INT.
Does the contract even matter anymore? It's not like the Jets are 1-3 and there's this consideration. Season's over. Playing Fitz because of the contract does nothing except hurt the team in the future.
Eh we can play Geno until after the Browns game, then move on to Petty after he gets his reps. Petty would then get 8 games, and a schedule with some easy teams and tough teams.
You and I know that.. But this is Woody Johnson, the man who hates dead money that calls the shots on this. Besides, Mac gave the contract and Woody signed off on it so guess who takes the hit? Benching Fitz is an defacto admission of a $12mil fck up on both their parts.
Lets split the difference shall we? Geno starts in Cleveland and Petty comes in after the half depending on the score..
As long as Petty is ready I am for it. If Geno throws 3 INTs and we are down 14 to 21 points, put Petty in.
