This. If there's language that allows an option conversion, which is fairly standard and would make a TON of sense from Tanny's perspective, Revis simply can't hold out. I don't buy this story from King. Why the hell would Revis tell this to a notorious Pats ballwasher of all people? I also don't buy it since his agents said there wouldn't be a holdout between now and 2014. Obviously they could lie, but why go on record with dual stories right now?
Exactly - no CB is worth the kind of money he wants, and if the Jets don't win a SB in the next two years it will be easy to justify making him someone else's problem. Or, as an alternative, if they can't get good enough value for him, letting him sit, since no one can claim that he is the difference between winning a Super Bowl and not winning one. I do think that even bringing this up is a complete douchebag move by King. Every player in the NFL can always hold out - why focus on Revis unless you're trying to take yet another shot at the Jets? And that's assuming it's even true, and that King didn't make it up or take it completely out of context.
Everyone on that NBC crew aside from Bob Costas can go suck a dick...They are lazy and terrible at their job I hate watching Sunday Night Football Pregame, halftime, post game shows
Peter King is also trying to gain some more readers or attention. How easy is it for some media guy to say that I had a quick chat and joke with someone about holding out again. Does anyone really think King and Revis would ever have a serious conversation about holding out again on his contract. This is assuming this was even true.
So we have 2 years to draft another man to man cover corner. If Cro works out this season, he is replaceable. Lets see what this season holds.
I know he had no leverage this year. Yet he held out. And that's why I said he WILL hold out in 2012 again.
Aso will have a new contract and that'll be the benchmark when Revis' camp decides to hold out again.
He definitely won't play for two years and hold out in 2012, because nobody will be playing in 2011. Case closed.
Do you really think a 30 year old corner is going to get a benchmark contract? His current one with the Raiders is likely going to be the high water mark unless he manages to lead the league in INTs...or gets signed by the Redskins.
Someone will give it to him. I'm convinced there is a team desperate enough to make him the highest paid CB in that year of free agency. Maybe not with guaranteed money, but with overall money. It'll be used for Revis one year later in some sort of capacity, since Aso is the only corner close to Revis in skill.
You quoted the wrong one... EDIT: Back on topic, I really don't see him getting that kind of a deal. If Revis continues to improve and pass him, it's going to be difficult for him to justify that kind of a contract. It would have to be a team one CB away from the Super Bowl with a shit-ton of cap space for him to pull that kind of money.
