He was explicitly asked about this with respect to the 3rd-and-19 play in his press conference, and his response was to condescendingly say "We'll just move on." He clearly does not believe in sending messages of that type.
Agreed. Everyone knows that Sam as a rookie is going to have ups and downs. As long as he doesnt throw a 4 interception game and look really bad, its on the rest of the team to step up. The Herndon drop was inexcusable. Pryor didnt challenge the corner on the ball on that play. These are basic things that the team failed to do.
And THAT is why we continue to make dumb mistakes. What if he pulled Herndon after that first mistake? THAT'S the message to send: Fuck up, then you get to sit. But when you tolerate shitty play, that's what you're gonna get.
Agreed. Why did they wait until they had around 45 seconds left in the first half to open up the playbook? It’s laudable to protect your rookie QB and to keep him on a game plan. But there’s no reason why Bates shouldn’t change plan to current game conditions. Yeah, there were drops, bad throws, and too much pressure, but the play calling didn’t help either. (How about a draw play?)
He seemed to be more comfortable w the rush when the playbook was opened up ..thats something a CS should notice in practice. We’re gonna find out real quick if Bates can play to Darnold’s strengths or if he and/or Bowles are too stubborn to adapt
After hearing about Vontae Davis, I asked Buster Skrine if he'd kindly retire at halftime but he just flipped me off.
Let him gloat. I would be gloating, too. It's innocuous, and the Jets need to be skewered on the loss. He's not being a shit pail as far as I can tell.
Big difference: Darnold learns and adjusts without having to be benched. And BTW: by "benching" I mean a play or two, not for the game, unless of course he still has trouble learning, in which case he shouldn't be out there anyway.
